Position
This trainee position is based at our Luxembourg headquarters and requires regular office presence, offering the opportunity to live and work in a truly international and multi‑cultural environment.
Objectives
Support the Division's lending activities primarily related to the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF) portfolio, consisting of investment grants and Technical assistance. Due to a substantial increase in operational, procedural, and reporting requirements under WBIF, a trainee will provide additional support to ensure the Division continues to deliver high‑quality outputs and remains fully aligned with WBIF and internal standards.
Beyond WBIF‑related activities, a trainee will also have the opportunity to make a varied, interesting and substantial contribution to the assessment and development of the EIB activity along the entire EIB project cycle.
Duration
5 months (fixed start date: 1st September/October 2026) with possible extension up to 6 months if required by University. The traineeship programme aims to attract applications from nationals of the Member States of the European Union. Candidates whose Erasmus+ programme overlaps with the duration of the traineeship will not be considered.

Responsibilities
- WBIF data entry, encoding and system updates
- Maintaining trackers on grant progress, deadlines, and procedural steps
- Preparing inputs for regular reporting and WBIF coordination meetings
- Assisting with document flows for screening rounds and monitoring exercises
- Performing research on clients and monitoring market and economic developments
- Financial and credit analysis of EIB's borrowers
- KYC (Know your Customer) and first adverse media checks
- Draft briefing documents and other material for official visits and communication actions of EIB in the region
Academic Qualifications and Professional Skills
- Final year of studies or University degree in Finance/Economics or business‑related discipline
- Knowledge of accounting principles and of financial analysis
- Previous working experience/traineeship in an international organisation or in the banking sector would be a clear advantage
- Excellent knowledge of spoken and written English
- Knowledge of the standard IT office tools (Word, Excel, Power Point)
