The EIB, the European Union's bank, is seeking to recruit for its Operations Directorate (OPS) - Business Planning and Support Department (BPS) - Information Systems and Applications Division (2-IT&INFO) - Data Governance and Information Management Unit (DGIM) at its headquarters in Luxembourg: TRAINEE
Duration: 5 months (fixed start date: 1st September/October 2026)
With possible extension up to 6 months if required by University

Objective of the traineeship
The Operations Directorate (OPS) is the EIB’s client‑facing Directorate, responsible for the origination and execution of projects inside the European Union and for delivering the bank’s business plan (“Operational Plan”) in line with priorities defined by its shareholders, the EU’s 27 Member States. In addition, OPS is responsible for the mobilisation and management of third‑party funds (mandates) in support of EIB activities and coordinates and provides advisory services to project promoters and managing authorities receiving EU budgetary funds.
OPS is the Bank’s biggest Directorate, with staff grouped in six Departments, of which four are transactional (Corporates – Equity, Growth Capital and Project Finance; Financial Institutions – Public Sector) and two have horizontal functions (Business Planning and Support – Advisory and Mandates).
As a trainee in one of the OPS horizontal departments, you will have the opportunity to familiarise yourself with the mission and values of the EIB and with its data quality management framework in line with the BCBS239 principles for risk data aggregation and reporting. You will be assisting experts in activities enhancing the data quality of the OPS data, reviewing the existing Data Quality (DQ) controls, creating new ones for Critical Data Elements (CDEs) using our in‑house DQ Engine, ensuring consistent use of the operational reports across all of the OPS Departments. You will also be encouraged to propose enhancements to the processes and tools, including AI‑assisted features.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Head of Unit, you will:
- Improve data quality for OPS data by addressing data quality issues and control exceptions through effective monitoring, investigation, and resolution processes.
- Review the existing Data Quality (DQ) controls, support in the creation of new ones for Critical Data Elements (CDEs), collaborating with data owners and stakeholders, translating business rules into technical checks.
- Support the Reporting Officers to ensure overall consistency of data, request corrective measures if necessary.
- Enhance Business Glossary with the compliance provided by these DQ Controls.
- Propose enhancements to the DQ and reporting‑related processes and tools.

Academic Qualifications And Professional Skills
- Final year of studies or university degree preferably in Business, Engineering or Computer Science or any related subject.
- Experience and/or knowledge with information/data tools will be an advantage.
- First experience in the banking/financial sector will be considered as an asset.
- Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, JSON, etc. will be considered as an asset.
- Excellent knowledge of standard Microsoft Office tools (in particular Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
- Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English and/or French. Knowledge of other EU language would be an advantage.
