The LAGEPP () is a research laboratory of the University Lyon 1 and the French national Institute for scientific research (CNRS UMR 5007). The LAGEPP-Gepharm “pharmaceutical engineering” team gathers strong pluridisciplinary competences (pharmaceutical formulation, cosmetic formulation, physical chemistry) in close collaboration with national and international research and development centers in industry or in academia.

Description

Location: LAGEPP (Laboratory of Automatic Process, Chemical Engineering and Pharmaceutical Engineering), CPE – La Doua Campus, 69100 Villeurbanne, France
Contract duration: 6 months.
Start date: February 2026

Keywords : formulation, imaging contrast agent, physico-chemical characterizations, drug delivery .

Project description :

Lung pathologies are still challenging to diagnose and treat, despite advancements. The project proposed to tackle both this aspect. Computed tomography (CT) is now the most effective clinical imaging method, yet it has a number of drawbacks. Spectral photon counting Scanner (SPCCT) is a new imaging modality with advantages over CT (high count rate and spatial resolution) and has demonstrated its interest for lung pathologies. SPCCT can also simultaneously quantify multiple features providing valuable diagnostic information. To exploit the full potential of SPCCT, new contrast agents must be developed. For high sensitivity, these must be composed of elements with high K-edge energies.

One objective of the project is to develop new contrast agent for SPCCT, these contrast agents may be designed for various routes of administration to image perfusion or ventilation of the lungs. The other objective will be to encapsulate drug of interest into nanoplatform for improve treatment of lung pathologies.

The student will work mostly autonomously on his/her project but also in collaboration with a PhD student Formulations will be characterized to determine their physico-chemical properties (size, charge of surface, drug release, etc…). Stability in physiological medial and interactions with biomolecules will also be studied.  In vitro and in vivo imaging efficiency will be evaluated in collaboration with cardiovascular radiologist (CREATIS lab, Lyon). Various characterizations technics will be used.

Candidate profile : Skills and knowledge in chemistry, formulation for health applications, physicochemical analysis. Motivated, curious, autonomous. Interest for interdisciplinary research.
