The Institute of Biology of the École Normale Supérieure ( IBENS ) is seeking to recruit a junior group leader in the area of Functional Genomics .

IBENS is a leading Life Sciences research institute located in the heart of Paris. Its mission is to advance our understanding of fundamental biological mechanisms through cutting-edge, interdisciplinary research. IBENS is part of the department of Biology of the École Normale Supérieure (ENS) and affiliated with CNRS, INSERM. The institute hosts 28 research teams working across four main research axes: Functional Genomics, Developmental Biology, Neuroscience, and Ecology & Evolutionary Biology.

Research at IBENS is deeply collaborative, spanning molecular, cellular, organismal, and theoretical and computational approaches. Our investigators benefit from a lively scientific environment and close interactions with other ENS departments and neighboring top research institutes (Curie Institute, Collège de France, ESPCI...). IBENS offers access to state-of-the-art facilities in genomics, imaging, cell engineering, protein production, animal and plant housing, microfabrication and prototyping (FabLab), and high-performance computing and IT services. As part of ENS and PSL University, IBENS scientists have strong links with higher-education teaching and training both at undergraduate and graduate levels, and have access to top-level students.

The Functional Genomics section aims to elucidate the mechanisms and dynamics of genetic information flow – from genome organization and replication to transcription, post-transcriptional regulation, and translation – that shape phenotypes in normal and pathological contexts. Research relies on diverse biological models, and covers various scales, from individual molecules to metagenomes, using approaches which combine biochemistry, biophysics, molecular and cellular biology, genetics, genomics, imaging, bioinformatics and artificial intelligence.

We are looking for an outstanding junior scientist proposing an innovative and ambitious research program in functional genomics with the potential to interact with and complement the existing strengths of IBENS. Projects incorporating experimental research will be of particular interest to the institute.

Successful candidates will be expected to establish an independent team and contribute to the scientific and educational mission of IBENS.

Application Procedure

Applications should include a CV, a summary of scientific achievements (max. 2 pages), a proposed research program (max. 2 pages) and three letters of recommendation , to be sent directly to the address below

DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS: 31 October 2025

Applications and inquiries should be sent to: ibens.newresearchgroups@biologie.ens.fr

Shortlisted candidates will be notified in November and invited for interviews shortly after.

IBENS is committed to an open, transparent, and merit-based recruitment process, and actively seeks to achieve gender equality.
