The EIB, the European Union's bank, is recruiting for the Operations Directorate (OPS) – Equity, Growth Capital and Project Finance Department (EGPF) – Project Finance East Division (5‑PF EAST) at its headquarters in Luxembourg: a TRAINEE position.
Duration: 5 months (fixed start date: 1st September/October 2026). Possible extension up to 6 months if required by University.
Objectives: The Project Finance division provides limited recourse debt financing to eligible projects focusing on EU transport, energy, digital and social infrastructure. As a trainee you will familiarise yourself with credit operations, financial and legal due diligence, project financing in private and public sector projects across our countries of operation and contribute to the business plan objectives of the division.
Responsibilities
- Financial analysis of counterparts (construction contractors, operating and maintenance contractors and financial sponsors).
- Study of financial models (extraction of data, comparison of simple data between similar projects).
- Compilation of documents for presentation to management committee hierarchy, support in preparing internal briefing documents; marketing activities and new client acquisitions, support in preparing marketing presentations; support in identifying business prospects through market research tasks and analysis of potential new clients.
Academic Qualifications and Professional Skills
- Final year of studies or university degree in Finance, Business, Economics or related fields.
- First experience in project finance will be considered an advantage.
- Good to advanced knowledge of MS Office software, particularly Word and Excel.
- Excellent written and spoken English. Knowledge of another EU language would be an advantage.
