The EIB, the European Union's bank, is seeking to recruit for its Operations Directorate (OPS) – Corporates Department (CORP) – Advisory, Business Development and Support Division (1-A&BDS) – Bond Financing Desk (BFD) at its headquarters in Luxembourg: TRAINEE . Duration: 5 months (fixed start date: 1st September/October 2026). With possible extension up to 6 months if required by the University. Eligibility: Only applications from nationals of the Member States of the European Union, as well as citizens from the candidate states (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey and Ukraine), are considered. Candidates whose Erasmus+ programme overlaps with the duration of the traineeship will not be considered. Applicants are requested to limit their submissions to a maximum of three traineeship publications. Only the first three applications will be considered and retained.
Objectives of the Traineeship
The objective is to provide a solid, hands‑on learning experience in a team responsible for delivering bond financing to EIB‑eligible projects, complementing the EIB's bilateral lending. The bond financing desk is a small, highly technical team seeking support with market intelligence gathering, deal appraisal, negotiation with clients and general support to the team. The trainee will be supervised by a senior colleague based in the Luxembourg office.
Responsibilities
- Gather market data for pricing, issuance volumes, intermediary partner research data, etc., and provide a weekly update to the desk.
- Conduct financial analysis in support of the due diligence process and negotiation of deals, as necessary.
- Prepare notes for the Management Committee / Services and maintain internal databases, e.g., transaction pipelines.
- Accompany senior colleagues to internal meetings and client meetings.
Academic Qualifications And Professional Skills
- Final year of studies or a university degree, preferably in Management, Finance, Banking or a related subject (Economics, Business Administration).
- Some experience in Debt Capital Markets is considered an advantage.
- Excellent knowledge of MS Office software, in particular Word and Excel.
- Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English. Knowledge of another EU language would be an advantage.
