EIB Trainee - Inspectorate General Directorate - Investigations Division - based in Luxembourg
Overview
This position is based at our Luxembourg headquarters and requires regular office presence. The EIB, the European Union's bank, is seeking to recruit for its Inspectorate General (IN) - Investigations Division (IN) - Fraud Investigations-Intake&Analysis Unit (INTAKE&ANALYSIS) at its headquarters in Luxembourg: TRAINEE .
Duration: 5 months (fixed start date: 1st September/October 2026).
(With possible extension up to 6 months if required by University)

Candidates whose Erasmus+ programme overlaps with the duration of the traineeship will not be considered.
Please note that you are requested to limit your applications to a maximum of three traineeship publications. We will only consider and retain the first three applications submitted.
Objective
The objective of the traineeship is to provide hands-on experience in supporting investigative intake, digital forensic, and analytical processes, while contributing to the unit’s work through data analysis, automation, and the application of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence. The traineeship further aims to support and enhance the unit’s investigative and analytical functions by strengthening data processing, digital analysis, and automation capabilities. Under supervision, the trainee will assist in processing and analysing information, developing technical solutions, and producing structured analytical outputs, while gaining practical experience in handling sensitive data within an investigative environment.
Responsibilities
- Under the responsibility of the Head of the Intake & Analysis Unit, contribute to the day-to-day and long-term performance of digital forensic and analytical work through the following activities:
- Assist in conducting data mining and analytical procedures using appropriate tools to support investigative activities.
- Assist in the implementation and operation of e-Discovery and digital forensic processes, particularly for the handling and analysis of large datasets.
- Develop and maintain scripts (primarily in Python) to automate routine processes, data extraction, and data cleaning tasks.
- Contribute to coding and scripting activities to improve workflows and data processing capabilities.
- Design and implement basic automation solutions using tools such as Microsoft Power Automate to streamline operational processes.
- Support the integration of APIs to enable interoperability between systems and tools.
- Assist in integrating AI-enabled tools and services into investigative and analytical workflows.
- Support the development, testing, and deployment of AI or machine learning solutions on cloud platforms, under supervision.
- Participate in analysing and interpreting outputs generated by AI tools, contributing to reports and insights.
- Assist in automating open-source research (OSINT) processes where appropriate.
- Assist in preparing structured summaries and drafting preliminary (zero-draft) assessment and investigation reports based on available data and templates.
- Perform other related duties as required in support of the unit’s mandate.
Academic Qualifications And Professional Skills
- Final year of studies or University degree in Computer Science, Data Science / Analytics, Information Systems, Digital Forensics or related fields.
- Good knowledge of Python (for data extraction, cleaning, scripting and automation) is required.
- Excellent knowledge of standard Microsoft Office tools (in particular Word and Excel).
- Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English. Knowledge of other EU language would be an advantage.
