With 5 locations around the world, Verto Education offers high school graduates the opportunity to start college through a first-year experience abroad. Students partake in full-time coursework with our Academic Provider, University of New Haven, while participating in programming and community activities that enable students to grow in their path to self-authorship- including internships.
The Presidential Scholar intern will operate in a dynamic role in engaging their peers to promote the Verto Community Values and advance initiatives related to Verto Discovery - our community-building framework. By the end of this internship, the intern will gain experience in the following skill sets:
- Communication: engage with a variety of stakeholders and through various mediums, including social media, in-person events, and written communications
- Events: Design, implement, and evaluate events that inspire a sense of belonging among our community
- Public speaking skills: Be a voice within your community
- Community Coordination: Design, execute, track, and measure projects related to promoting sense of belonging amongst the Verto Community
The Presidential Scholar will report to the onsite Student Life Manager, who is excited to work with you. Hours for this position will be 15 hours a week, and an exact schedule will be decided with your manager. Applicants should be available to occasionally attend / host in-person events in the evening times.
Primary Responsibilities
Academic Success:
- Co-host Study Groups with onsite staff. Promote study groups with peers to ensure high levels of engagement
- Lead a weekly subject-specific study group based on your academic background and skill set
- Contribute to peer tutoring guide, including participating in and providing feedback to trainings and skill-building materials
Events and Operations:
- Design, execute, and follow-up on events for Verto Community. You will create fun and engaging events for students to get to know one another. Event sizes range from students.
- Contribute to the planning and leading of Wellness Week, Discovery Week and Closing Ceremony
- Set up events within Student Portal and manage RSVP list
- Design flyers and descriptions, and promote event on the Student Portal and social media
Community Ambassadorship / Mentorship:
- Weekly content creation (photos and videos) to share your point-of-view on for social media channels
- Attend all events to promote active engagement of Verto Community
- Support student leaders who will lead clubs on-site
- Mentor students who are getting prepared for their first semester of college by sharing insights on how to be a successful college student
