Urology APP- Urology- Lake Norman
Overview
Atrium Health is seeking two compassionate Advanced Practice Providers (Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner) to join a new urology practice in a rural community. This position is based at the Urology Lake Norman location and supports outpatient, inpatient, and operating room activities with a focus on building a strong, patient-centered urology program.
Responsibilities
Major responsibilities include clinical knowledge, patient care, professional practice, and collaboration within a multidisciplinary team. Specific duties include:
Demonstrate knowledge of etiologies, risk factors, pathophysiology, presentation and epidemiology of urologic conditions.
Perform history and physical assessments appropriate for age, gender and clinical problem.
Order and interpret diagnostic studies; synthesize data to inform care plans.
Develop, implement, evaluate and modify plans of care; manage general medical and surgical conditions within scope of practice.
Educate patients and families; provide counseling and discuss treatment options and potential risks.
Perform and assist with procedures as outlined in the practice agreement; maintain proficiency in relevant skills.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
Patient Care responsibilities include:
Provide patient- and family-centered care across the lifespan; promote health, prevention and disease treatment.
Coordinate care and communicate effectively with the healthcare team; involve patients and families in care planning.
Advocate for patients and navigate the healthcare system to support optimal outcomes.

Demonstrate self-awareness of strengths and knowledge gaps; pursue ongoing learning and professional development.

Area-specific Responsibilities
Outpatient Responsibilities:
Conduct comprehensive or episodic health histories and physical assessments.
Establish medical diagnoses and provide medical management.
Transcribe or execute standing orders within scope; obtain informed consent for procedures.
Manage postoperative follow-up and complications; direct clinic staff as needed.
Communicate with referring providers to coordinate care.
Inpatient Responsibilities:
Perform daytime hospital consultations and rounds on established patients; assist in the operating room if needed.
Support a limited number of weekly overnight call shifts.
Perform bedside procedures (e.g., cystoscopy, difficult catheter placement).
Procedures (selected):
Catheter insertion and changes
Complex bladder irrigation; cystoscopy with or without biopsy
Prostate-related procedures and ultrasound
Visicoil placement; Interstim interrogation; tibial nerve stimulation
Bedside procedures and suturing; other procedures as permitted under practice agreement

Qualifications
Licensed Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner with 1+ years of urology or surgical experience preferred; new graduates with strong clinical backgrounds will be considered.
Graduation from an accredited NP or PA program; current NC license; prescriptive privileges and DEA license; BLS.
Nurse practitioners: master’s or doctorate in nursing practice; Acute Care NP certification for inpatient roles; Family or Adult NP accepted for outpatient roles.
Physician Assistants: NCCPA certification preferred.
Schedule and Benefits
40 hours per week, Monday through Friday; no weekends or holidays; no call.
Outpatient, inpatient and OR coverage as needed.
CME allowance of 2,500 USD annually plus 5 CME days.

Compensation
Pay range: 47.50 - 71.25 per hour.
