Explore a rewarding opportunity with the WFBMC Pediatric Nephrology Department as we eagerly welcome a skilled Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our dynamic team in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. This position is a mix of inpatient and outpatient duties.
What You’ll Do
As a valued member of our healthcare team, the PA/NP will play a key role in team-focused patient care, conducting thorough examinations and evaluations. As an Advanced Practice Provider (APP), you will collaborate closely with our nephrology team to deliver comprehensive care to pediatric patients. The role supports diverse provider functions across the pediatric hospital and ambulatory clinic settings, ensuring high-quality care from diagnosis through ongoing management. This position offers a dynamic and fulfilling work environment with opportunities for professional growth and training in specialized areas. Responsibilities include:
- Provide high-quality, patient-centered care for pediatric nephrology patients, including assessments, diagnostics, treatment planning, and management of conditions like kidney disease, hypertension, and electrolyte imbalances.
- Work collaboratively with nephrologists, PAs, and the nephrology team to develop and implement comprehensive care plans for both inpatient and outpatient pediatric patients.
- Support patients and families by offering education on kidney disease, treatment options, and lifestyle modifications.
- Assist with the coordination of care, ensuring seamless communication among multidisciplinary providers.
- Participate in the delivery of specialty care across various settings, including inpatient, outpatient, dialysis, and follow-up care.
- Opportunities for future training and involvement in specialized procedures such as dialysis, infusion therapies, renal ultrasound, and percutaneous renal biopsies.
- Use medical decision-making skills to determine the appropriate patient care plan.
- Collaborate with the medical team when needed for effective team-based care.
- Order and interpret laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures. Explain the necessity, preparation, nature, and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient.
- Perform procedural skills per department or practice guidelines.
- Potential for and encouraged to precept students and/or medical learners.

- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
The clinician functions under the regulatory mandate from their respective licensing organization (North Carolina Medical Board or North Carolina Board of Nursing) with departmental specific credentialing from the institution.
Qualifications
Physician Assistant (PA) Requirements:
- Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant Program; Master’s Degree preferred
- Current North Carolina Medical Board Medical License, Certified by NCCPA
- Current American Heart Association or Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) is required to start
- Current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and Department of Public Safety (DPS) registration, for prescription writing is required to start
Nurse Practitioner (NP) Requirements:
- Graduation from accredited Nurse Practitioner Master’s Program, Master’s degree or higher required
- Current North Carolina Board of Nursing Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner license
- Board certified as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner-Acute Care by AANP or ANCC
- Current American Heart Association or Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) is required to start
- Current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and Department of Public Safety (DPS) registration, for prescription writing is required to start
