Staff Environmental Engineer or Geologist 2

Location: New York City, NY or White Plains, NY

Full‑time position.

Duties / Responsibilities

  • Perform site reconnaissance to observe existing conditions, assess site access for subsurface explorations, and identify important site features.
  • Monitor subsurface exploration activities (e.g., test borings, geoprobes, and test pits) to collect soil, bedrock, groundwater, and other pertinent information for project design.
  • Conduct soil and groundwater sampling in accordance with applicable ASTM standards, company standard procedures, and other industry guidelines.
  • Collect, synthesize, and analyze data using approved procedures and tools.
  • Compile, reduce, analyze, manage, and report field, instrumentation, geological, and/or environmental data in spreadsheets and other tools.
  • Conduct on‑site monitoring and engineering observation of contractor environmental and geotechnical‑related construction activities.
  • Use various environmental and geotechnical instrumentation and equipment during field work.
  • Perform historical site review and review applicable regulations, as appropriate.
  • Prepare written reports, proposals, cost estimates, and other client deliverables, including Phase I and Phase II ESAs.
  • Adhere to site‑specific health and safety plans and participate in safety briefings and audits.

Skills / Experience

  • B.S. degree in Environmental Engineering, Geology, or a related discipline (M.S. welcomed).
  • 0-7 years professional services consulting experience, including Phase I/II environmental assessments and presentation of technical solutions.
  • Compliance with Haley & Aldrich Guiding Principles, Code of Behavior, and health & safety protocols.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Initial professional certification in core discipline (EIT, FE, FG, PG) or intent to pursue.
  • Strong computer literacy, including MS Office.
  • Ability to travel to assignments across the U.S. and valid driver’s license.
  • OSHA 40‑hour HAZWOPER and OSHA 30‑hour construction site safety training preferred; NYCDOB Site Safety Training Card preferred.
  • Capacity to meet physical requirements: lift 50 lb., traverse challenging sites and work outdoors in various weather conditions.

Salary

New York City, NY: $60,000 - $85,000 annually.

White Plains, NY: $60,000 - $80,000 annually.
