Renewable Energy Technical Lead

Oversee the design, integration, and implementation of distributed energy solutions across the United States for AECOM’s US Energy Practice. This leadership role offers the freedom to work remotely or from select U.S. offices and involves managing engineering teams, driving technical excellence, and supporting business development efforts for renewable and decentralized energy projects.

Responsibilities

  • Support department manager in advancing a culture of technical excellence and accountability.
  • Supervise and guide a team of engineers and designers through technical development, ensuring career satisfaction and organizational benefit.
  • Provide mentorship to engineers within the US Energy Practice and remote teams.
  • Lead improvements in project efficiencies by creating, updating, and implementing group‑specific standards/templates.
  • Supply management with project resourcing and staff forecasting insights.
  • Develop task and deliverable lists with associated hours estimates and schedules for renewable and decentralized energy projects.
  • Support strategic resourcing initiatives and participate in recruiting efforts.
  • Lead by example in engineering execution, serving as technical lead and engineer of record on projects.
  • Perform engineering calculations to support construction deliverables (specifications, reports, drawings).
  • Support projects through the complete life cycle: feasibility, preliminary and detailed design, issue‑for‑bid, construction, start‑up, and commissioning.
  • Monitor team project progress to ensure quality, on‑time and on‑budget delivery.
  • Participate in and present engineering work at client meetings, including occasional travel.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers on design schedules and budgets.
  • Provide quality control reviews of work produced by others.
  • Maintain technical and safety standards throughout all design work.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS in Electrical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited university.
  • 6+ years of experience in utility‑scale renewable and battery storage system design and integration.
  • Current Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Minimum 4 years of leadership/supervisory experience.
  • 12+ years of relevant experience in renewable and decentralized energy projects.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, PVsyst, Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with industry software such as NREL SAM, ForgeSolar, Helioscope, Homer, ETAP, WindPRO.
  • Capability to perform system financial estimation (Capex, Opex), PPA recommendation, and ROI calculation.
  • MV AC collection system design experience.
  • Special design experience in floating PV and fuel cells.
  • Proficiency with NEC, IBC, NFPA 855, and other related codes.
  • Deep knowledge of utility practices, industry codes and standards (NESC, IEEE, PIP, etc.).
  • Interest in developing talented technical teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Experience on full EPC, Design/Build projects from start to finish.
  • Field construction and commissioning experience.

Additional Information

  • Relocation not available.
  • Visa sponsorship not available now or in the future.
  • Compensation: USD 160,000 – USD 180,000 per year, commensurate with location and qualifications.
  • Hybrid work model: remote or office based in the United States.
