Overview

Airbus Aerosystems Kinston is looking for a Quality Inspector to join our Quality department based in Kinston, NC. Our team manufactures crucial aircraft components on the shop floor and seeks individuals skilled in electrical, structure and quality to help build the next generation of aircraft.

Working Environment

The Airbus Aerosystems Kinston facility focuses on aerospace manufacturing, producing large, advanced composite aerostructures for components such as the Airbus A350 XWB. The Operations department is seeking a Quality Inspector in Kinston, NC.

Your Challenges

We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized aviation Quality Inspector to join the Product Inspection team. Responsibilities include monitoring adherence to manufacturing and quality processes to ensure compliance with aviation standards, and acting as a technical expert in process confirmation, manufacturing and operational excellence.

  • Inspect visually in-process and completed products such as electronic units and subsystems, precision electromechanical assemblies or mechanical units, subassemblies and structural components, identifying defects and ensuring conformance to drawings, blueprints and inspection instructions.
  • Use various measuring devices and inspect from blueprints, diagrams, dial indicators, micrometers, fixtures and customer specifications.
  • Accept, reject or rework defective units as required; perform line clearances and verify material removal between lots.
  • Document non-conformances and maintain quality records; support statistical process control where applicable.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Work from drawings/CATIA, process specifications, quality control requirements, software programs and test procedures to inspect parts, subassemblies and assemblies.
  • Dimensionally inspect parts or assemblies.
  • Initiate and document non-conforming materials according to specifications and procedures.
  • Inspect vendor, subcontractor or company parts and assemblies; follow a predetermined sequence of work.
  • Prepare and maintain Quality records; support continuous flow by cross-training and assisting other employees.
  • Be prepared to take on other duties as required by Airbus leadership; training will be provided as needed.

Qualifications

Required

  • Precision measurement tools and blueprint/drawing interpretation.
  • First Article Inspection experience.
  • Willingness to work any shift and overtime.
  • Willingness to work from motorized elevated platforms.
  • Work Keys Assessment completion or High School Diploma/GED.

Education

  • Associate’s degree in Aviation, Quality Assurance, or related field preferred, but not required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in quality assurance, quality control, manufacturing operations or related aviation roles.
  • Preferred 5 years in similar roles; aerospace certifications are a plus.
  • Willingness to travel up to 5% domestically/internationally.

Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities

  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong knowledge of aviation Quality Management Systems, Safety Management Systems, and FOD programs, preferably in manufacturing.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to interact at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team; high flexibility and initiative.

Technical Systems Proficiency

  • Proficient in MES and QMS used in manufacturing; training in composite lay-ups and fabrication.
  • Experience with aerospace tools and systems such as SAP and MES preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Onsite: 100% on-site.
  • Vision, hearing and speaking requirements to read documents and communicate on the production floor.
  • Ability to operate office and production equipment; lift up to 30 lbs/14 kg; push/pull light loads; stand for extended periods; and travel up to 5% when required.
  • Required PPE includes safety shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection, masks/respirators, and other site-specific PPE.

Other

  • Must be able to work on elevated platforms up to 40 feet high and adhere to safety protocols on the manufacturing floor.
  • Additional duties as assigned; training provided as needed.
