Overview

We are looking for a Project Engineer to join our engineering team based in Paris, France. Working closely with the Project Manager and Engineering Manager, you will coordinate the technical delivery of projects from design through to implementation, testing, deployment and troubleshooting. You will collaborate with internal teams and engage with clients as required to ensure successful outcomes.

The role requires strong knowledge of IP networking, wireless technologies and Linux platforms, plus at least three years of hands‑on experience configuring and troubleshooting network devices such as switches, routers and access points. Experience with satellite communications is an advantage. Occasional extended international travel may be required for certain projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with the Project Manager to coordinate internal teams and ensure all deliverables are completed within specified timescales.
  • Interact with clients to determine requirements, agree on solutions, review documentation, agree on test plans and present results.
  • Perform high‑level design from the bid technical proposal and finalise design during the project phase.
  • Create project documents to match requirements and planning: document design including synoptics, integration documents for third‑party solutions, test specifications, configuration, training and installation manuals, and handover documents for operations.
  • Define and review configuration to match design objectives with support from the internal team.
  • Troubleshoot issues, through own investigation and by coordinating with other internal teams or manufacturers, acting as third‑line support to internal teams.
  • Manage handover to the client or in‑house support staff, including training.

Qualification Requirements

Essential

  • Understanding of TCP/IP networking, LAN and VLAN IP planning.
  • User knowledge of Linux.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of mobile data networks and general hybrid telecom & IT experience.
  • Knowledge of certification requirements for railway.
  • Linux REDHAT or Debian certified.
  • Degree in Electrical, Electronic, IT, Computing Engineering or a related subject.
  • Understanding of IT/Telecom operations and maintenance procedures.
  • Knowledge of antenna design and placement. RF telecom knowledge.

Experience Requirements

Essential

  • At least three years of hands‑on experience configuring and troubleshooting network devices such as switches, routers and access points.
  • Remote management experience using SSH.
  • Very good communication skills, both technical and user‑facing, in English and French.
  • Good documentation skills.
  • Experience creating system schematics, bills of materials, test documents and technical processes and procedures.
  • Good knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and preferably Visio.
  • Thorough and logical approach to planning and implementation.

Desirable

  • Experience working in rail or transportation sector with understanding of operations and maintenance procedures.
  • Wi‑Fi and/or RF planning and implementation experience.
  • Experience with hardware integration, interface definition and reviewing schematics.
  • Experience working with Puppet, Zabbix and GIT.
  • Experience with VMs and containerization.
  • Experience with security and penetration testing.

Other Essential Requirements

  • The candidate must be fluent in French and English.
  • Familiarity with industrial and maintenance processes in a railway environment is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to travel within Europe (10%-20%, depending on project phase).
  • Able to work onsite in train depots or shunting yards.
