is an innovative French company born with a global ambition to decarbonize the steel industry. Our goal is to produce large-scale, low-carbon green Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) using renewable and low-emission hydrogen. We aim to build, own, and operate our first green iron plant in southern France (2.3B€ Capex) , with the intention of replicating this model across Europe and beyond.
GravitHy is looking for an Process Engineer - Electrolyser specialist.
The Process Engineer / Electrolyser Specialist (Subject Matter Expert – SME) will be directly attached to the Project Manager as GravitHy's authoritative technical lead for electrolyser technology across all project stages — from concept and FEED through EPC, commissioning, and operations readiness.
The SME will work closely with the multi-disciplinary engineering team, including process, mechanical, electrical, and I&C disciplines, to ensure consistent decision-making and integration across all interfaces. Acting as the GravitHy's primary technical counterpart to OEMs and EPCm, the SME will lead design reviews, challenge assumptions, and ensure robust, operable, and cost-efficient solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Electrolyser OEM's Coordination & Technical Governance
- Serve as the GravitHy SME for all Electrolysers OEM interactions and design reviews.
- Critically review OEM design documentation and performance guarantees.
- Verify compliance with applicable European norms & standards.
Process Design & Integration
- Lead and coordinate all process interfaces between the electrolyser package and balance-of-plant systems, including utilities, cooling, water treatment, compression, and storage.
- Develop and maintain process-related documentation for the hydrogen plant in coordination with the engineering team.
- Identify and drive value engineering and cost optimization opportunities in process design, layout, and utility integration, balancing performance with lifecycle cost.
- Support the engineering team in resolving interface issues and coordinating with the OEM and EPCm to ensure timely and technically sound decisions.
- Contribute to project configuration management, ensuring that all process design modifications are reviewed, justified, and properly documented.
Project Execution & Support
- Provide process leadership throughout FEED, EPC, and commissioning phases.
- Review EPCm deliverables for consistency with the general process philosophy and OEM integration requirements.
- Serve as the SME for the development to HAZID, HAZOP, SIL, and operability reviews of the hydrogen plant.
- Support commissioning planning, start-up strategy, and operational handover.
Safety, Quality & Performance
- Drive process safety in design and ensure alignment with corporate and regulatory requirements.
- Track electrolyser performance KPIs: efficiency, hydrogen specification, energy consumption, reliability, uptime.
- Participate in lessons-learned reviews and continuous improvement of technical specifications.
Profile :
Education :
- Engineering degree in Chemical
- Specialization in hydrogen production or electrolysis industries, is a plus
- Familiarity with EPC / EPCm project environments is an asset
Experience :
- 8 - 10 years of experience in industrial project engineering, ideally in hydrogen production.
- Deep understanding of PEM and Alkaline electrolyser systems, including dynamic operation and degradation mechanisms.
- Experience interfacing with OEMs and Engineering contractors.
- Strong knowledge in process safety and industry European standards.
- Demonstrated ability to review vendor documents and challenge technical assumptions.
