Power Systems & Field Engineering Specialist
Location: Greenville, SC
Job Type: Full–Time | On–Site with Limited Travel
Our client is a privately held engineering firm specializing in advanced power systems and energy infrastructure solutions. They conduct testing and supply equipment, solving problems for critical operations.
Role Overview
As a Power Systems & Field Engineering Specialist, you will work across the full project lifecycle—from design and modeling to field commissioning and troubleshooting. This is a dynamic, hands‑on role requiring deep electrical engineering knowledge and adaptability in both office and field environments.
Primary Responsibilities
- Engineering & Design: develop and analyze power distribution systems, including substations, transformers, relays, breakers, and switchgear; perform system modeling and simulations to optimize performance and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Draft and review technical drawings, design specs, and project documentation.
- Conduct system studies such as load flow, short circuit, arc flash, and relay coordination.
- Collaborate with project engineers, field technicians, and clients to deliver tailored solutions.
- Perform on‑site testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning of electrical systems and equipment.
- Calibrate instruments and maintain testing tools to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Identify system issues in the field and recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate documentation and prepare detailed reports for stakeholders.
- Ensure all field activities meet safety standards and applicable regulations.
Experience
Minimum 3 years of experience in power systems engineering; field testing experience strongly preferred.
Technical Skills
- Proficient in MATLAB, ETAP, or similar modeling software.
- Solid foundation in electrical theory, power electronics, and protection systems.
- Strong troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis capabilities.
Soft Skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Self‑starter with ability to work independently and on multidisciplinary teams.
Certifications
- PE license required (or in progress).
- Certifications in Power System Protection or related areas are a plus.
Travel
Willingness to travel up to 50% for field service as needed.
Education
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution (PE license eligibility in South Carolina required).
