Summary:

The U.S. Mission in France is seeking qualified applicants for a Physician position within the Health Unit section .

  • The physician in this position is expected to provide primary urgent and emergency outpatient medical care services to all eligible American employees and their family members.
  • Additionally, the incumbent will provide emergency and occupational health services to all employees of the Mission.
  • Services will be provided through direct patient evaluation, examination, and treatment.
  • The Locally Employed Staff (LES) physician is responsible for determining when hospitalization/medical evacuation is required and arranging all appropriate aspects of the patient's care.
  • The LES physician will participate in after-hours call responsibilities with other health team members.
  • The job holder has significant impact on the entire post customer base in a variety of levels and fashions, including decisions on employees’ abilities to work, continued ability to be posted in their overseas assignment based on medical conditions that require ongoing management, and Medevac decisions and implications.
  • The Front Office and Management will look to this position to play a vital role in creating a healthier workplace, writing policies, and providing advice on how to improve health condition and awareness of the entire mission.
  • All selected candidates must be able to obtain and hold a Public Trust (Low Risk-Non-Sensitive) security clearance.
  • All selected candidates will be subject to a background investigation and may be subject to a pre-employment medical exam.
  • Selected candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time (12 weeks) upon receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.
  • Must possess and maintains a current valid and unrestricted license to practice medicine within the host country, country of citizenship, or the U.S.

Education Requirements:Education:

  • A Medical Degree from an accredited Medical School and completion of appropriate post-graduate internship/residency/or fellowship is required.

Qualifications:Experience :

  • A minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience post-graduate training in primary care (Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics, or Internal Medicine) with at least 50% of the provider's time involved with direct patient care during that time is required.

Skills And Abilities:

  • Applicant must be able to perform common office-based surgical procedures, primary care procedures, and have emergency response skills such as intubation of patients, Intravenous insertion, ability to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, etc.
  • Position should work with standard medical equipment and is expected to know how to operate basic laboratory equipment.
  • Must be proficient in use of computer including Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet functions including medical literature searches and use of common computer-based applications/programs.
  • Must be sensitive to needs and feelings of the patients and be approachable and personable in order to obtain and maintain the trust and confidence of employees and dependents.
  • Will be required to maintain Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support certifications through Department of States sponsored Continuing Medical Education courses or equivalent community resources.
  • The applicant will be provided with supervised training within the Medical Unit from supervising Direct-Hire American staffing and will participate in MED Bureau continuing education courses as appropriate.
  • Must possess and maintains a current valid and unrestricted license to practice medicine within the host country, country of citizenship, or the U.S.

Notes: Special Work Environment & Conditions

  • The health unit can be an emotionally charged work environment with frequent health emergencies and crisis that requires a calm approach, and a focus on excellent clinical skills and customer friendly services, while assisting those in duress.
  • The majority of work will be completed in an office setting but there are increased risks for infectious disease contact in this environment due to nature of work, as well as the occasional need to assist in the lifting/moving of patients that are incapacitated.
  • The incumbent will share in rotational call responsibilities that will require after-hours and weekend/holiday emergency services.

SALARY: the annual gross salary includes : the profit-sharing allowance, the vacation allowance, the bonus allowance and the “Comité d’Entreprise” allowance.

MEAL TICKETS : Meal tickets have a face value of EUR 8.25/day. 60% of the daily amount is paid by the U.S. Government. An employee contribution of EUR 3.30 per ticket will be deducted in payroll. The number of meal tickets is limited to 202 workdays per year.

TRANSPORTATION: Employees are eligible for a reimbursement of 50% of the cost of public transportation passes purchased for commuting purposes.

HOLIDAYS: The U.S. Missions in France observe eleven U.S. holidays per year and up to ten French holidays.
