The Role
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Packaging Engineer to support the development, qualification, and industrialisation of luxury cosmetic and fragrance packaging for global brands. This role sits at the intersection of engineering, design, sustainability, and manufacturing, ensuring that packaging solutions meet the highest standards of aesthetics, performance, quality, and scalability across international markets.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the engineering development of primary and secondary packaging for luxury cosmetics and fragrance products, including bottles, pumps, caps, applicators, cartons, and decorative components.
- Partner closely with Design, Marketing, Product Development, and Operations teams to translate creative concepts into technically viable, production-ready packaging solutions.
- Manage packaging specifications, tolerances, drawings, and BOMs, ensuring accuracy and alignment across suppliers and internal systems.
- Drive supplier collaboration and technical validation, including tooling reviews, pilot runs, line trials, and first production approvals.
- Conduct and evaluate performance testing (e.g., compatibility, drop, leak, transportation, aging, and regulatory testing) to ensure packaging integrity and consumer safety.
- Support global scale-up and commercialization, ensuring packaging performs consistently across regions, factories, and filling lines.
- Identify and implement cost optimization opportunities while maintaining luxury standards of quality, finish, and brand equity.
- Contribute to sustainability initiatives, including material innovation, recyclability, weight reduction, and compliance with evolving global regulations.
- Troubleshoot packaging and line-related issues, providing root-cause analysis and corrective actions during development and post-launch.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and internal quality systems.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
- 5+ years of packaging engineering experience, preferably within luxury cosmetics, fragrance, personal care, or premium consumer goods.
- Strong understanding of packaging materials and processes, including glass, plastics, metal, paperboard, decoration techniques, and assembly.
- Experience working with global suppliers and contract manufacturers across multiple regions.
- Proven ability to manage complex development timelines and multiple projects simultaneously.
- Familiarity with CAD tools, packaging testing protocols, and quality documentation.
- Knowledge of sustainability trends and regulatory requirements in global beauty markets is a strong plus.
