Packaging Engineer (H/F)

Job Overview

Elanco is seeking a Packaging Engineer to support External Manufacturing (EEM) teams in the EMEA region. The successful candidate will join Joint Process Teams (JPT) to ensure technical excellence, control of GMP documents, and oversight of finished products.

Responsibilities

• Provide packaging process and material expertise and ensure compliance with global standards.
• Maintain oversight of key batch processing records, SOPs, and P‑Process documents.
• Write technical reports to convey status of key initiatives and process metrics.
• Participate in site visits to assess capability and resolve complex technical issues.
• Ensure assigned products have an appropriate control strategy.
• Use data and process knowledge to identify continuous improvement opportunities.
• Support generation and review of Annual Product Reports (APR) / Product Qualification Reports (PQR).
• Prepare or coordinate technical inquiries and briefings for internal inspections or health authorities.
• Manage product/process transfer projects from a TSMS perspective.
• Mentor and coach less senior TSMS scientists and engineers within the hub.
• Support investigations related to deviations and complaints in the scope of packaging.
• Support and/or lead new product introductions and technical transfer between internal or third‑party partners.

Minimum Qualifications

• Advanced university degree or equivalent experience in life science or engineering (e.g., pharmacy, chemistry, chemical engineering, veterinary medicine).
• Fluent in English and at least one additional European language.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in pharmaceutical or chemical production, TS/MS, drug development, or quality assurance.
• Minimum 5 years of experience specifically in packaging processes, materials, and packaging design.
• Strong grasp of production processes, applied statistics, quality systems, and regulatory requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

• Project management skills and experience working with interdisciplinary, multicultural teams.
• Ability to write high‑level technical reports and manage industrial‑scale technical transfers.
• Strong leadership and presentation skills to influence senior management.
• Flexibility to travel on short notice to meet business needs.
• Advanced degrees (Ph.D., MBA) and additional languages are advantageous.
