Mechanical Engineer – Paris

Mercury is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to lead mechanical systems for complex engineering & construction projects.

Responsibilities

  • Management of the Mechanical Systems under your control.
  • Support the engineering requirements by managing & liaising with Key Project Stakeholders (Client design team, Main contractor, Suppliers, Sub-contractors, etc).
  • Familiarisation with Design/IFC specifications and drawings to fully understand the scope of the Project works. Oversee the co‑ordination process to transform design information into full installation drawings by BIM personnel ensuring spec compliance and schedule priority, including generation/management of Requests for Information (RFI), technical queries, etc.
  • Management of Site Safety in conjunction with the Project Manager and the Mercury Safety Advisor, including the setup, management and closing out of the safety file.
  • Management of Site QA in conjunction with Mercury QA Manager, including set up, management and close out of file.
  • Management of Project Schedule in conjunction with Mercury Project Manager, consulting Engineer and Client requirements, ensuring Engineering activities do not impact the schedule (e.g. Procurement).
  • Manage all aspects associated with your package including: Mercury Mechanical Team, Sub‑contractors, Material deliveries and goods receipting, Plant and Equipment, Variations, Valuations.
  • Manage day‑to‑day site operations and ensure Mercury Policies and procedures are followed closely.
  • Track subcontractor progress against schedule and manpower levels, ensuring adequate information flow and weekly meeting logging.
  • Ensure works are installed in accordance with Project specifications and QA plan.
  • Assist the Installation Package team to manage the quality needs for the project on site, providing guidance to ensure compliance with all relevant standards, codes and specifications.
  • Manage construction work packs process from development, implementation and handover.
  • Manage the Mercury “In Progress” snagging system, ensuring weekly punch lists are returned and snags are distributed to all sub‑contractors.
  • Issue direct labour hours and sub‑contractor hours to the time administrator for central tracking.
  • Attend site meetings, internal project reviews, engineering reviews, planning and coordination meetings, and handover meetings.
  • Close out all project deliverables including Final Account, O & M Manuals, Punch List, Safety File, QA File, material and plant relocations, Project Plan, supported by the site project manager and project team.
  • Issue weekly cost reports, including all orders placed, materials expected and labour levels.
  • Produce information reporting to ensure activity targets/deadlines are met, including engineering task log managed by the Engineering Lead.
  • Issue internal weekly progress report rolled up from project supervisors.
  • Issue external weekly progress report to the project manager.
  • Manage technical submittals and approvals.
  • Schedule material deliveries to match the project schedule, track deliveries and manage procurement through Engineering Materials Report (EMR).
  • Maintain a weekly project photographic diary.
  • Prepare sub‑contractor and supplier tender packages with Project QS.
  • Assess tender returns for technical compliance with design intent specifications.
  • Evaluate and promote the use of new engineering practices and processes to improve delivery time of the project.
  • Manage BIM priorities: support team to develop modular concepts, typical fabrication details and isometrics, release for construction. Verify materials/assets within the model. Manage change control.
  • Support and coach junior engineers in the project team.
  • Attend project meetings or white‑board activity planning sessions as required.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Essential Criteria

  • 5+ years’ experience working with a recognised Mechanical/Electrical contractor.
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Excellent negotiation, problem solving and decision‑making skills.
  • Proficiency in use of systems software related to Engineering functions.
  • Excellent IT skills.
  • Familiarity with Project / Primavera planning software and CAD/BIM processes.
  • Ability to manage workload and prioritise.

Desirable

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work on own initiative.
  • Knowledge of modularisation.
