Litigation Counsel
Own Qonto's litigation processes end‑to‑end, with a primary focus on banking litigation. Define the right legal strategies to navigate high‑stakes disputes and limit financial exposure as the customer base scales.
Responsibilities
- Supervise litigation globally with support of local legal teams: handle pre‑litigation and litigation matters end‑to‑end, with a strong focus on banking disputes — payment incidents, account closures, fraud‑related claims, credit matters, and regulatory enforcement actions.
- Lead litigation for France and Belgium markets: act as the legal lead for dispute strategy and execution in both jurisdictions.
- Limit financial risk: decide on the most effective legal strategy for each case and coordinate with Finance on accurate provisioning, particularly for high‑value banking disputes.
- Support the Belgian branch on commercial & product matters: be a go‑to legal contact for commercial contracts, product launches, and regulatory questions specific to Belgium — building your generalist expertise alongside your litigation core.
- Improve and scale operations: refine our litigation processes and leverage AI tools to automate repetitive tasks and build scalable playbooks.
- Mentor and guide: support and upskill more junior team members on complex files, fostering a culture of continuous learning and process ownership.
What you can expect
- High‑impact & complex cases: handle a high volume of diverse cases with increasing complexity and high financial stakes.
- Cross‑functional collaboration: work daily with key internal stakeholders like Customer Care, Banking Operations, AML, Risk and Finance to build strong case foundations.
- Continuous improvement: autonomy to build trackers, playbooks, and experiment with AI to enhance legal ops.
- A growing team: join a dynamic Legal team where your expertise will be pivotal in absorbing our growing workload and expanding your scope to international markets.
About you
- Experience: at least 4 years of experience handling French banking litigation end‑to‑end (payment disputes, account‑related claims, fraud, etc.) with a strong ability to assess legal and financial risks.
- Generalist appetite: curious about commercial and contract law and eager to expand scope beyond purely litigation, ideally with exposure to Belgian law.
- Forward‑thinking & process‑driven: comfortable experimenting with AI and modern tools to automate tasks and speed up litigation work; track record of improving legal operations.
- Collaborative & communicative: excel at coordinating with internal stakeholders and external lawyers, strong written communication skills for reporting and case tracking.
- Languages: professional fluency in French (C2 level) and English (C1 level), strong knowledge of French banking law and litigation practices.
