Lead VFX Artist
PowerUp Talent is proud to represent a premier independent game development studio based in Paris . Known for their mastery of third-person action, advanced animation systems, and high-intensity online gameplay, this 130-person team has delivered critically acclaimed titles.
We are looking for a Lead VFX Artist to join the production of their upcoming ambitious project. You will mentor a talented team of five while remaining hands-on in creating high-quality, stylized visual effects within UE5 .
The Role:
As the Lead VFX Artist, you will bridge the gap between technical excellence and artistic vision. You will oversee the VFX pipeline, ensuring that every spark, power, and environmental effect enhances the gameplay and stays true to the studio\'s unique artistic direction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Mentorship: Supervise a team of 5 artists; set standards of excellence, provide technical guidance, and foster a healthy, collaborative growth environment.
- Artistic Quality: Guarantee the artistic consistency and high-quality "feel" of all effects (environment, weapons, powers, post-process).
- Hands-on Creation: Design, integrate, and optimize VFX from initial concept to final debug using Niagara and Blueprints .
- Cross-Discipline Collaboration: Partner closely with Art and Game Design teams to provide impactful visual feedback for players.
- Optimization: Ensure all effects meet the technical constraints of real-time performance and online play.
Requirements:
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in VFX for video games, with a proven track record in team management or mentorship.
- Technical Mastery: Advanced proficiency in Unreal Engine 5 (Niagara, Material Editor, Blueprints) and standard industry tools (Adobe Creative Suite, Blender/Autodesk).
- Artistic Eye: A strong sensibility for stylized art directions and a deep understanding of timing, color, and rhythm.
- Soft Skills: A proactive, organized approach with the ability to navigate a fast-paced environment and provide/receive constructive feedback.
- Language: Professional fluency in French is required for internal collaboration within the Paris-based team, alongside a good command of English.
Bonus Points:
- Experience with Live Service/Online games.
- Strong interest in R&D and staying ahead of the curve with new VFX technologies.
- Experience designing thematic or cosmetic content.
