About the role

Kpler is on the lookout for a Lead Engineer specializing in AI Enablement to spearhead the formation and development of a new team dedicated to artificial intelligence initiatives. This role is pivotal in shaping the technical vision, architecting internal AI tools, and overseeing a small group of engineers. The primary focus will be on delivering innovative AI solutions that span various departments within the organization, including engineering, finance, and beyond.

What you'll do

• Lead the establishment and growth of the AI Enablement team, focusing on technical leadership, project delivery, and initial team management, with an eye towards expanding managerial responsibilities in the future.
• Design the architecture for Kpler's internal AI tools, which will encompass agents, assistants, shared frameworks, knowledge bases, and seamless system integrations.
• Collaborate closely with department champions to develop and implement AI solutions that cater to specific business functions, guiding projects from the discovery phase through to production and subsequent iterations.
• Create a robust AI software factory within the engineering division by standardizing practices, establishing architectural guidelines, and promoting AI-assisted development across all teams.
• Ensure the implementation of security protocols and responsible AI practices, particularly in connecting AI systems with core company infrastructure, focusing on access control, data privacy, and human oversight.
• Actively engage in the design, development, and deployment of critical components of the platform, contributing technical expertise to enhance overall functionality.
• Define and track success metrics for internal AI initiatives, such as user adoption, engagement levels, automated workflows, time efficiencies, and return on investment, providing regular updates to stakeholders.
• Foster AI capabilities across the organization through champion networks, knowledge-sharing sessions, comprehensive documentation, and enablement programs.
• Play a key role in the recruitment and onboarding processes for the AI Enablement team as well as other engineering positions within the company.

Requirements

• A minimum of 8 years of experience in software engineering, with a strong background in designing and managing production systems.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or Golang, while also considering candidates with experience in other JVM languages.
• A solid understanding of security protocols, access control mechanisms, and data privacy considerations in the context of AI systems.
• Proven experience in leading engineering projects, whether as a tech lead, lead engineer, or engineering manager overseeing a small team.
• Hands-on experience in deploying products powered by large language models (LLMs), agents, or AI tools in production settings.
• A background in integration-heavy engineering, adept at connecting products to third-party SaaS solutions and internal data through APIs.
• Strong skills in stakeholder management, particularly with non-technical audiences, enabling effective translation of business processes into actionable systems.
• Experience with systems integration across commercial SaaS platforms and internal services, ensuring seamless functionality.
• Familiarity with cloud environments, preferably AWS, as well as CI/CD practices and observability tools for production systems.

Nice to have

• Experience in building internal tools, platforms, or enablement teams that enhance organizational capabilities.
• Knowledge of agent frameworks, MCP-style tool interfaces, and multi-agent systems that can drive innovation within the team.
• Experience in evaluating LLM performance, ensuring observability, and managing costs associated with AI workloads.
• A track record of introducing AI-assisted development methodologies within engineering teams.
• Experience in a scale-up environment, demonstrating comfort with ambiguity and the ability to establish functions from the ground up.
