Lead Design System Engineer
This lead role will drive bsport’s design system architecture, strategy, and vision, influencing the entire product and working closely with Design and Product teams.
Why this role is different?
Your initial focus will be Kaizen, our B2B design system powering the new back‑office for studio managers, staff, and teachers. As you find your footing, the scope can expand to two additional systems: our white‑label meta design system for B2C web, and our React Native mobile system.
Responsibilities
- Lead the evolution of Kaizen – architecture, component quality, documentation and adoption.
- Drive accessibility improvements across the board – keyboard navigation, ARIA compliance, mobile interactions.
- Own governance and standards – reduce redundancy, enforce consistency, and ensure product teams build with the system, not around it.
- Progressively extend ownership to Fabrique (B2C web, white‑label) and Okaia (React Native mobile).
- Define how design systems become AI‑ready – machine‑readable structure, cursor rules, agent‑friendly naming conventions.
- Bring vision on animation and micro‑interactions to elevate the feel of our products.
- Collaborate closely with the Sr. Design System Product Designer with no PM or EM in between – high autonomy, high impact.
What you would be a great fit if you have
- 4+ years of front‑end experience, with at least 1 year as the primary owner or lead contributor of a mature design system.
- A designer's eye – attention to detail, taste for quality, and the ability to push back on “good enough.”
- A systems thinker who can create order without slowing teams down.
- Fluency in React and TypeScript, solid knowledge of web components and advanced CSS.
- Follow the design system space closely and have opinions about leadership and trends.
- Excitement about how LLMs and agents change component architecture and developer tooling.
- A portfolio or GitHub that shows design system work – real components, decisions and trade‑offs.
- Bonus: experience with animation, transitions, and performance‑optimized motion.
- Bonus: React Native experience or appetite to learn.
