Junior Legal Officer - Fixed Term Contract 12 months

Overview

Swan is building a new Legal team to support our payment and business regulation initiatives. The Legal Officer will report directly to the VP Legal and will play a critical role in developing and managing contract processes, ensuring efficient negotiations and collaboration with the compliance team.

Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate complex commercial contracts in English and French, ensuring alignment with business objectives and legal requirements.
• Manage the full contract lifecycle from initiation to renewal or termination, establishing key milestones, timelines, and alerts.
• Develop standardized negotiation frameworks and processes to streamline discussions, minimize cycles, and maintain compliance with legal and business needs.
• Ensure all contracts and business practices comply with relevant laws and regulations, including GDPR, payment regulations, and AML standards.
• Identify, assess, and mitigate contractual risks and manage dispute resolution processes when required.
• Advise and train operational teams (sales, product, technology, etc.) on legal matters, fostering a strong legal culture and supporting informed decision‑making.
• Implement and improve systems for contract archiving, document management, and knowledge sharing across the company.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in French law, ideally focused on banking, financial, or business law.
• Approximately two years of experience as a legal officer in a tech/fintech, regulated, or fast‑paced environment.
• Expertise in contract law, compliance (GDPR, payment regulations), and risk management.
• Strong negotiation skills and a solution‑oriented mindset.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and French, with the ability to explain complex legal topics simply.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and prioritization abilities, capable of managing multiple projects in a dynamic setting.
• Collaborative, pragmatic, open‑minded, humble, and proactive approach.
