Ion Channels PhD program - Fellowships Call for Applications
Overview
The IdEx Strategic Program (PSI) Ion Channels aims to strengthen and expand UniCA’s expertise in ion transport and cellular excitability in health and disease through a multidisciplinary approach.
The program integrates:
- Cutting-edge methodologies : in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo electrophysiology, optopharmacology, transcriptomics.
- Integrative approaches : animal models, computational modelling and artificial intelligence.
- Pathophysiological research : pain, migraine, cancer, cardiovascular diseases, autism spectrum disorders, intellectual disabilities, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases, psychiatric disorders and epilepsy.
- Therapeutic innovation : neurostimulation, pharmacology and precision medicine.
The PSI brings together leading research teams from institutes in the Nice area (IPMC, LP2M, iBV, UR2CA, INRIA, the J.A. Dieudonné Laboratory and C3M), fostering high-level research, training, international collaborations and partnerships with industry and the University Hospital.
The PSI Ion Channels PhD Program
The PSI Ion Channels offers fully funded 3-year PhD fellowships within a highly interdisciplinary and internationally visible research environment at Université Côte d’Azur , a dynamic university of over 30,000 students located on the French Riviera (South of France).
PhD projects will start in October 2026 and cover a broad range of topics related to ion transport (channels and transporters) and/or cellular excitability.
PhD candidates will benefit from:
- Close supervision within teams of complementary expertise.
- A rich training programme including advanced courses, workshops and scientific events.
- Access to state-of-the-art experimental and computational platforms.
Application Procedure
Applications are open to candidates of any nationality who hold — or expect to obtain before September 2026 — a Master’s degree (or equivalent).
We invite highly motivated candidates with a strong academic record to apply for PhD projects that are still open for recruitment.
Detailed information on the proposed PhD projects, including scientific descriptions and supervisors’ contact details, is available at: life.univ-cotedazur.fr/les-actions-de-leur-life/les-bourses-de-leur-life/bourses-de-these-ion-channels-2026
Candidates are expected to contact their prospective supervisors by April 15 , with the following documents:
- Candidate’s CV.
- Motivation letter (maximum 1 page).
- At least one recommendation letter from a previous supervisor.
- Master’s transcript with detailed grades and ranking (or current transcript if ongoing).
