Insurance Benchmark & Domain Methods Lead

The opportunity

IXO is engaging senior insurance specialists in the United States to define demanding evaluation work and the standards used to judge it. The focus is professional depth: detecting answers that appear convincing but fail on actuarial assumptions, policy interpretation or the practical conduct of insurance work.

Responsibilities and deliverables

• Examine insurance tasks and model outputs for missing steps, weak reasoning, incorrect actuarial assumptions and misapplied policy provisions.
• Write precise task instructions and complete reference solutions that demonstrate what a professionally sound answer must establish.
• Develop new problems, benchmark datasets and explicit scoring criteria reflecting real insurance workflows.
• Help develop insurance-specific methods and evaluation tools with research colleagues, making implicit expert judgment understandable to other reviewers.
• Calibrate assessments with specialists from adjacent areas and document reasons for material disagreements.

Your contribution should draw on at least one substantial specialization: life and annuities, group life and disability, property and casualty, health, reinsurance, pricing or reserving, enterprise risk, claims adjudication or underwriting.

Required qualifications

• At least four years of substantive work with an insurer, reinsurer, broker, adjusting business or insurance regulator.
• Either FSA, ASA, FCAS or ACAS, or an active state insurance license in adjusting, underwriting or broking. The actuarial route also requires a degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics or a related quantitative subject.
• Progression to a senior practitioner or leadership role, with actual ownership of an insurance book, reserve or claims portfolio. Relevant responsibility may sit with an actuary, senior actuary, AVP, director, chief actuary, claims manager or underwriting head.
• Hands-on professional use of large language models and the judgment to recognize plausible but incorrect answers.
• Precise written communication and structured feedback.

Engagement and pay

This IXO engagement is remote within the United States at $65 $105/hr USD. Forty hours per week and an initial six-month scope are planning assumptions only.
