This fast-growing European aerospace startup is on a mission to transform space access by making advanced propulsion technologies more affordable, efficient, and sustainable. Leveraging a proprietary hybrid rocket engine architecture, the company is pioneering a new class of launch vehicles suited for both civilian and defense applications.

Role Overview:

As Head of Propulsion, you will play a central role in delivering the company's core technological mission. This is a newly created leadership position, reporting directly to the CTO, and tasked with both technical leadership and team development. You will lead a dedicated team of propulsion engineers focused on the design, development, and testing of hybrid propulsion systems for the company's flagship launch vehicles.

Responsibilities:

• Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of propulsion engineers.
• Foster a collaborative, test-driven culture with a focus on continuous improvement.
• Set clear goals, ensure timely delivery, and manage resources effectively.

Technical Oversight

• Lead the end-to-end development of hybrid rocket engines: design, validation, testing, and integration.
• Ensure system-level performance, simplicity, and reliability.
• Work cross-functionally with teams in avionics, structures, AIT, and test operations.

Strategic & Organizational Contribution

• Shape the propulsion roadmap in line with company goals and evolving market needs.
• Represent the propulsion function in executive meetings and technical reviews.
• Explore new technologies, suppliers, and partnerships to maintain a competitive edge.

Project & Budget Management

• Define project timelines, milestones, and budgets.
• Monitor risks and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
• Report progress transparently and celebrate key wins with the team.

What We're Looking For:

• Master’s or PhD in Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (with a propulsion focus).
• Solid experience in rocket propulsion system development—from design to testing.
• Demonstrated success in leading engineering teams in complex, fast-paced environments.
• A hands-on mindset with the ability to balance strategic thinking and technical depth.
• Bonus: experience in scale-up environments or prior work with hybrid systems.
