Ground & Operations Segment Architect – Advanced Robotics & AI Satellite Missions

Europe (Hybrid/On-site)

A pioneering NewSpace company at the forefront of autonomous robotics and AI-driven satellite technologies is seeking an experienced Ground & Operations Segment Architect to join its growing team. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing and integrating the ground infrastructure for next-generation autonomous inspection, life-extension, and rendezvous missions in geostationary orbit (GEO).

About the Role

This is a high-impact, cross-disciplinary position responsible for the architecture, development, and validation of the ground segment and operational systems enabling advanced robotic and AI satellite operations.

You will work closely with spacecraft, autonomy, and mission operations teams to ensure seamless integration between space and ground systems throughout all mission phases — from launch to servicing and end-of-life.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop the ground segment architecture, including mission control, telemetry, tracking & command (TT&C), and data systems.
  • Define and manage system requirements, interfaces, and operational concepts (CONOPS).
  • Lead mission operations planning, including commissioning, rendezvous, docking, and robotic servicing.
  • Oversee system validation, integration with spacecraft simulators, and full-scale mission rehearsals.
  • Coordinate with international ground stations, autonomy systems, and software providers to ensure end-to-end mission readiness.

Requirements

  • Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in ground systems, space operations, or systems architecture.
  • Strong understanding of TT&C systems, CCSDS protocols, and ground software (e.g., SCOS-2000, EPOCH, GMSEC).
  • Experience in requirements management tools (DOORS, Jama, or equivalent).
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills across multidisciplinary and international teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with autonomous or robotic satellite missions, proximity operations, or AI-enabled control systems.
  • Familiarity with ECSS or NASA mission standards.
  • Knowledge of secure space communications and cybersecurity best practices.
  • Experience in agile or DevOps-based ground software development.

Why Join

  • Contribute to first-of-its-kind autonomous GEO missions that integrate AI and robotics to transform satellite operations.
  • Work with a cutting-edge, international team of engineers and scientists shaping the future of autonomous space systems.
  • Competitive package, flexibility, and opportunities for growth in a fast-evolving NewSpace environment.
