Magnum photographers are a rarity and the agency is self-selecting, with a 4 year long process. The membership has evolved over the years to encompass the work of almost 100 diverse photographers.

We have offices in New York, London, and Paris, and work globally with press, publishers, advertising clients, broadcasters, galleries, and museums. Magnum’s activities include a major exhibition programme, education initiatives focused on the next generation of visual storytellers, an e-commerce platform, and an editorial platform exploring photography across art, culture, and news. Together, these reach an audience of over 6 million+ worldwide.

About the role:

We are looking for a Global Director, Education to play a key part in our in person and online education growth strategy with a particular focus on expanding our B2B activities.

The role combines strategic leadership, programme development, and operational oversight, and is suited to someone comfortable working across planning, coordination, and commercial decision-making. You will lead multiple initiatives at different stages of development while actively monitoring the education, digital, and photography landscapes to identify opportunities aligned with Magnum’s mission and values.

As a member of the senior leadership team, you will bring an ambitious and commercially minded approach, helping to identify new ways to grow Magnum’s education activity while strengthening trust and collaboration between photographers and staff.

The role includes direct line management of the global Education team (currently two team members) and contributes to business development across territories. Due to the team’s structure and strong community engagement, this role requires close and ongoing collaboration with team members to jointly develop and implement strategy.

What you’ll do

Program Strategy & Development

  • Define, lead, and evolve Magnum’s B2C and B2B education strategy, ensuring alignment with educational standards, brand positioning, and long-term vision.
  • Design and develop, in close collaboration with the Education team, tailored education programmes for organisations, institutions, and professional audiences to drive reach, relevance, and revenue.
  • Drive growth through new B2B partnerships, using data, insights, market research, and competitor analysis to develop high-value programmes.
  • Monitor market and competitor trends to anticipate shifts in photographic education and define the strategic, functional, and resource requirements needed to maintain Magnum’s leadership position.
  • Contribute to commercial development, including programme scoping, pricing structures, and partnership discussions.
  • Lead contract preparation and negotiations, ensuring effective governance, documentation, and follow-up.
  • Define, track, and report on KPIs, evaluating programme performance against agreed objectives and annual targets, in alignment with broader business goals.

Program Delivery & Coordination

  • Partner with internal teams (Education, Marketing, Operations) to execute B2B programmes in line with defined strategy, scope, and timelines.
  • Coordinate resources, schedules, and deliverables across internal and external stakeholders to ensure efficient and consistent delivery.
  • Act as the central point of contact for B2B programme implementation, ensuring alignment and clear communication throughout delivery.

Leadership

  • Articulate and champion a clear educational vision and point of view within the photography and education landscape, grounded in market awareness and an audience-centric approach.
  • Build and sustain strong relationships across the photographic and cultural ecosystem to inform, enrich, and expand programme development.
  • Develop trusted working relationships with Magnum photographers, understanding and navigating the nuances of photographers’ concerns and how these intersect with broader organisational goals.
  • Coach, mentor, and support the Education team, fostering skill development, professional growth, and clear career progression.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (Content, Partnerships, Marketing, Operations, etc.) to ensure education objectives align with and are supported by wider business priorities.

  • A proven leader with experience managing and developing small to mid-sized teams, with clear accountability for outcomes.
  • Strategic and hands-on, able to set direction and translate it into high-quality delivery.
  • Experienced operating at senior leadership level, contributing to organisational strategy, prioritisation, and decision-making.
  • Skilled at building trust and alignment across stakeholders, teams, and partners in creative, commercial, and operational contexts.
  • Experienced in designing and delivering education programmes across in-person and digital formats, while managing multiple projects end-to-end.
  • Commercially astute, with experience working with B2B or institutional partners and managing budgets, performance, and growth targets.

Minimum qualifications

  • 8–10 years’ experience in education, photography, cultural programming, or a related field, including significant time in a leadership role.
  • Fluency in French and English; Spanish is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of digital creative and production tools (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite) and learning or content management platforms.
  • Experience working in an international or multi-territory context is highly desirable.

Important information

  • Location: Preferably office-based at the Magnum Paris office (75011). Other locations may be considered, with priority given to cities where we have offices, notably New York and London.
  • Work Authorization: Candidates must have the legal right to work in their country of residence.
  • Work Arrangement: Up to one day of remote work per week.
  • Employment Type: Full-time position.
  • Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:30 AM–6:30 PM.
  • Travel: Ability to travel as required.
  • Compensation: Based on a Paris salary scale, with a fixed salary of €50,000 gross plus annual bonus tied to the achievement of objectives. The package may be adjusted according to experience and country of employment.
