Frontend Engineer (Lumo)
About Lumo
Lumo is Proton's privacy‑first AI assistant that reimagines how AI should work, empowering users without harvesting their data. Built on open‑source language models and operated with zero‑access encryption, Lumo keeps all conversations completely confidential.
Role Summary
We are looking for a passionate Frontend Engineer to join our growing Lumo AI team. You’ll turn designs into responsive, fast, and reliable interfaces that shape the day‑to‑day experience of our users.
What You Will Do
- Turn UI mockups into production‑ready React components.
- Integrate those components with backend services using TypeScript and modern data‑fetching patterns.
- Optimize performance so pages load quickly, even on slower connections.
- Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and engineers to ship features end to end.
- Own the quality of your work: write tests, document decisions, and participate in code reviews.
- Spot friction in the user journey and fix it before it becomes a complaint.
What We Expect
- Strong expertise in React.
- Solid grasp of TypeScript and JavaScript fundamentals.
- Experience with state‑management and data‑fetching libraries.
- Ability to produce clean, maintainable code without cutting corners.
- Good communication skills and a willingness to give and receive honest feedback.
- A proactive attitude – you identify problems and solve them without waiting for direction.
Nice to Have
- Exposure to AI or large language model products.
- Python scripting for tooling or data tasks.
- Knowledge of distributed systems and observability stacks.
- Hands‑on experience with design tools such as Figma.
Why Join Lumo
You’ll be part of a mission‑driven team trusted by over 100 million people worldwide and owned by the nonprofit Proton Foundation. This role offers the opportunity to shape the future of AI by building full‑stack infrastructure that proves privacy, performance, and reliability are not mutually exclusive.
What We Offer
- Office locations in Geneva, Zurich, Prague, Barcelona, Paris, London, Vilnius, Skopje, and Taipei; remote work up to 30 % of the time.
- All devices and software needed to excel in your role.
- Lunch and snacks provided daily at our offices.
- Transport support through subsidies for public transport, bike allowances, or parking spaces.
- Stock options as part of the Proton ownership model.
- Flexible working hours that accommodate team meetings.
- Learning and development opportunities including conferences, training programs, and continual learning.
- Comprehensive health insurance, competitive retirement savings, generous vacation and leave policies, and wellness programs.
- Work that matters: a community‑first organization where user subscriptions fund our services.
