FPGA Team Lead
Established in 2017, Infinite Orbits is a NewSpace company, based in Toulouse, pushing the boundaries of in-orbit services with cutting-edge spacecraft driven by its own Rendez-Vous solution, an advanced Autonomous Vision-Based Navigation Solution. IO has two generations of missions
\n"Orbit Guard" provides Inspection and Space Situational Awareness services in GEO.
\n"Endurance" is a docking service capable of extending the life of GEO telecom satellites, by taking over AOCS takeover for 5 years.
About the Role\nAs the FPGA Team Lead , you will architect future generations of our in-house satellite equipment - including the next generation of our camera to support our vision-based navigation system - while leading and growing the FPGA team. Collaborating closely with electronics, software, and systems engineering teams, you will steer our long-term technology roadmaps and oversee the delivery of highly reliable, mission-critical flight systems. You will mentor engineers, define and enforce processes, and oversee verification activities to ensure all FPGA deliverables consistently meet the standards required for spaceflight. This is a hands-on technical leadership role at the core of our flight system's operational capability.
Job Description\nDefine end-to-end FPGA system architectures and low-level block designs from system-level requirements for new core equipment to be deployed on satellites.
\nDrive technology roadmaps to continually improve performance and identify opportunities for new development.
\nCollaborate with the Systems and Software teams to ensure seamless integration of FPGA solutions with flight software and satellite systems.
\nLead, mentor, and grow the FPGA engineering team.
\nDrive task breakdown, resource allocation, schedule risk identification, and project delivery estimates.
\nManage technical relationships with external vendor and supplier technical leads.
\nEstablish and uphold design standards, VHDL coding guidelines and processes.
\nDocument design decisions, implementation details, and testing protocols for future reference and compliance purposes.
\nStay updated on the latest advancements in FPGA technology and embedded systems to improve system designs and practices continually.
Requirements\nProficiency in designing, implementing and reviewing VHDL.
\nProven experience designing and implementing complex FPGA designs including clocking and reset strategies, multi-clock domain crossing (CDC), and timing closure.
\nHands-on experience with standard memory and communication peripherals (UART, SPI, CAN, Ethernet, DDR4, NAND Flash).
\nPractical experience conducting both pre-silicon simulation/unit testing and on-hardware debugging.
\nExperience of leading an engineering team including task breakdown and allocation, risk identification and project management.
\nContinuous improvement through team mentoring, code review and training.
\nIdentify and establish improvements to processes and standards, to improve quality and reliability.
\nRequired degree: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
\nLevel of experience: At least 8 years of experience in FPGA development, with at least 2 years in a technical lead, team lead, or architecture ownership role.
Optional Experience\nExperience with Microchip FPGAs and tools (Libero, SoftConsole, etc.).
\nExperience with unit-level simulation and verification frameworks and CI/CD pipelines.
\nExperience designing for high-reliability, space, or high-radiation environments (preferably GEO), including radiation mitigation techniques.
\nKnowledge of low-level embedded software development, drivers, or Linux kernel.
Attributes\nExcellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
\nAbility to collaborate effectively with cross-disciplinary teams.
\nInnovative thinker with a strong analytical mindset.
\nDetail-oriented, with a commitment to excellence and precision in work.
\nProactive in identifying issues and developing effective solutions.
\nAbility to present technical concepts clearly to multidisciplinary teams, executive leadership, external suppliers, and clients.
\nPassionate about developing team members' technical skills through constructive feedback and training.
What we offer\nThe opportunity to be part of an international team transforming the space industry.
\nA creative and innovative work environment where ideas turn into reality.
