Environmental Scientist/Engineer – Journeyman

We are looking for a Senior Environmental Scientist/Engineer to assist with the U.S. Air Force’s Environmental Restoration Program. This role will provide Advisory and Assistance (A&A) services to AFCEC/CZO and CZR.

Responsibilities

  • Provide specialized advisory and assistance (A&A) support services to the Air Force, including:
  • Air Force environmental restoration program management processes
  • Environmental investigation and remediation contract oversight
  • Safety briefings and accompanying remediation contractors into controlled areas and providing controlled area safety briefings
  • Development of statements of work and independent government estimates for environmental investigation and remediation contracts
  • Review investigation and remediation contractor deliverables including work plans, investigation reports, and recurring performance reports
  • Conduct data gap analysis using ERPIMS data and submit data gap reports
  • Develop and refine current year and out‑year project requirements to move sites toward site closure
  • Review environmental investigation and remediation project schedules
  • Update Management Action Plans, Community Relations Plans, and other general installation documents with the latest site cleanup information and status
  • Assist with technical presentations to Air Force stakeholders in coordination with a variety of project stakeholders
  • Manage technical teams to include workload distribution and timely deliverable submittals
  • Interact and correspond with installation and AFCEC program managers
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or a bachelor’s degree in an engineering or scientific discipline or related field is required. A master’s degree may be substituted for experience.
  • Three (3) to ten (10) years of experience in environmental restoration under RCRA and CERCLA.
  • Experience with Performance Based Remediation (PBR) and Optimized Remediation Contracts (ORC) with one or more federal agencies.
  • Experience with the contract acquisition process, including Air Force, GSA, and USACE contract vehicles.
  • Knowledge of state and federal environmental regulations, DERP, and Federal Acquisition Regulations for site investigation, cleanup, and closure.
  • Experience interacting with state and federal environmental regulatory agencies.
  • Strong organizational skills and excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to multitask and meet aggressive deadlines.
  • U.S. citizenship and a DoD government security clearance (NACI) required.
  • Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements.
  • Must pass pre‑employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal.

As required by our governmental client, this position requires U.S. citizenship and an active Secret clearance.
