Job Summary

Independently develops, implements, and oversees strategies and programs to enable compliance with applicable federal, state, and local Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) regulatory requirements, and organizational EH&S and Workplace Safety (WPS) policies and standards. Contributes to the success of Environmental Health and Safety programs through implementation, evaluation, monitoring, and enhancement, and provides employee safety and protection through training efforts. Ensures high‑quality service by resolving standard issues and acting as a resource on EH&S and WPS matters. Recognizes and assesses hazards and risks by developing and implementing best practices for identifying, analyzing, documenting, and communicating standard and nonstandard workplace environmental health and safety risk trends. Prepares high‑quality analysis and reports regarding the state of environmental health and safety. Ensures risk control by interpreting general guidelines to promote workplace safety and compliance and evaluating the effectiveness of measures to improve workplace safety outcomes.

  • Independently adheres to compliance standards by developing, implementing, and overseeing strategies to enable compliance with federal, state, and local EH&S regulatory requirements; serves as liaison for all EH&S regulatory, accreditation, and grant agency inspections and surveys (e.g., TJC, EPA, DOHS, OSHA, State Fire Marshal, county inspections). Identifies downstream impacts for compliance, upholds Kaiser Permanente policies and principles of responsibilities, plans and schedules best practices for regulatory reports, and identifies opportunities for process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Provides training and continuous learning: seeks training opportunities, presents safety education and training programs for management and staff, and conducts competency assessments.
  • Engages in safety practices: ensures employee safety by educating stakeholders, investigating incidents, conducting safety‑related activities, and implementing changes to the employee safety program.
  • Plans and schedules health and safety work: implements programs; conducts standard and non‑standard assessments and analyses; makes recommendations to enhance existing programs.
  • Recognizes and assesses hazards and risks, prepares analysis and reports, and documents safety information to enable tracking of safety trends.
  • Contributes to risk control by implementing changes that promote safety, gathering input from stakeholders, and evaluating the effectiveness of implemented changes.
  • Responds to complaints and resolves standard and non‑standard issues, escalates as needed, and acts as a consultant/resource for local administration, managers, physicians, and staff on EH&S matters.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Natural Science, Engineering, Emergency Management, or related field AND minimum three (3) years of experience in environmental health and safety, risk management, or directly related field OR minimum six (6) years of experience in environmental health and safety, risk management, or a directly related field.

Associate Safety Professional Certification, Industrial Hygienist Certificate, Safety Professional Certificate, or Health Safety Professional Certificate within 24 months of hire.

Additional Qualifications

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
  • Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP)
  • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)
  • Or related certification.

Pay Range: $98,300 – $127,160 / year. Kaiser Permanente strives to offer a market‑competitive total rewards package and is committed to pay equity and transparency. The posted pay range is based on possible base salaries for the role and does not reflect the full value of our total rewards package. Actual base pay will be determined at offer based on labor market data, internal alignment, and a candidate’s years of relevant experience, education, certifications, skills, and geographic location.

Travel: Yes, 20 % of the time

On‑site: Work location is on‑site (KP designated office, medical office building or hospital). Worker location must align with Kaiser Permanente’s Authorized States policy.
