Engineer in spatial image processing chain development M/F
As part of its Earth Observation activities, Magellium Artal Group participates in major programs led by space agencies and other institutions. Magellium Artal Group is recognized by its clients for its scientific expertise across a wide range of fields, from measurement physics to downstream applications. The Earth observation projects entrusted to us by our clients involve, in particular, scientific processing chains for data acquired by satellites.
These processing chains—whether prototypes or operational—are developed for integration into the ground segments of satellite missions. What sets these processing chains apart is the combined mastery of scientific and algorithmic remote sensing techniques, as well as the engineering, methodological, organizational, and IT aspects of processing chains, all within an environment that often demands robustness and high performance.
Join our teams and help launch the MS-HR (Multi-sensor – High-frequency) space program!
As part of our “Earth Observation” Unit, you will join a team specializing in the geometric modeling of satellite sensors—that is, the range of techniques used to ensure the precise geolocation of satellite images, with our main clients being space agencies such as CNES and ESA.
As part of the launch of the MS-HR program, which was recently selected under the France 2030 plan alongside Loft Orbital, we are hiring a software engineer specializing in space image processing pipelines to help kick off this new strategic project.
The MS-HR program aims to provide France with an unprecedented Earth observation capability through a constellation of 10 satellites that deliver multispectral imagery with a high revisit rate.
Your role will focus on developing operational satellite image processing pipelines and related tools, including image simulation and calibration/validation processes.
As such, your main missions include :
- Technical Specifications: Help define the technical specifications of processing chains in collaboration with business experts.
- Algorithm development and validation: design, implement, and validate correction algorithms for images from space-based optical sensors.
- Design of calibration/validation and quality control tools: develop tools to measure and improve the quality of the images produced.
- Quality assurance: Perform unit and integration tests to ensure the robustness and quality of the software.
- Maintenance of operational readiness: ensuring the evolution and operational support of existing tools.
- Documentation and support: writing the associated technical documentation and providing support to users of the developed tools.
Profile required
You are a graduate of an engineering school and/or hold a master’s degree in computer science, applied mathematics, or image processing, and have at least 3 years of experience in software development on a scientific project, ideally involving the processing of space imagery.
You have a solid understanding of algorithms and a strong interest in the space sector. Experience in space ground segments would be a plus.
Technical skills
- Good written and spoken English skills.
- Skills in scientific programming (Python and, ideally, C++).
- Proficiency in Docker and CI/CD practices.
- Knowledge of applied mathematics, particularly signal processing.
- Interest in scientific and technical fields.
- Writing and communication skills.
- Ability to adapt and develop skills in new areas.
- Ability to work well with others and strong interpersonal skills.
- Independence, thoroughness, and dedication.
By joining this project, you’ll be taking part today in a cutting-edge, independent initiative that addresses the civil, environmental, security, and defense challenges of tomorrow.
