Turner Lovell is supporting a major international energy technology company delivering advanced power conversion, energy storage and grid integration solutions for the global energy transition. With strong growth across Europe, Africa and the Middle East, our client is expanding its engineering capability to deliver turnkey BESS power plants for complex international projects.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Application Engineer to take a technical lead role across the full EPC lifecycle, from tender support and contract review through to basic design, detailed engineering, FAT/SAT, commissioning support and project takeover.
Your Role
As Application Engineer / Electrical Project Engineer, you will act as a technical referent for assigned battery energy storage projects, ensuring that engineering solutions are compliant with contract requirements, international standards, customer specifications and grid codes. You will coordinate across electrical, mechanical, automation, IT and civil engineering teams to deliver high-quality, technically robust BESS plants.
Responsibilities
- Lead the technical coordination of Battery Storage projects from contract effective date through to project takeover.
- Review contract requirements, identify technical risks, deviations and missing inputs, and prepare compliance matrices.
- Coordinate engineering deliverables including system design, single-line diagrams, layouts, P&IDs, control architecture and bills of quantity.
- Ensure technical compliance with IEC, IEEE, CIGRE, national grid codes and local regulations.
- Produce and review technical specifications for HV/MV/LV equipment, including transformers, switchgear, substations and auxiliary systems.
- Support or verify electrical studies such as load flow, short circuit, cable sizing, protection coordination, earthing, harmonics and arc flash analysis.
- Manage the Master Document Register, internal review cycles, client submissions, comments and revision control.
- Lead technical meetings with customers, suppliers and internal stakeholders, including design reviews, clarification meetings and risk reviews.
- Review supplier technical documentation across electrical, mechanical, BESS containers, HVAC, fire protection and SCADA packages.
- Support procurement through supplier technical evaluations, technical queries and bid evaluation reports.
- Provide technical support to project management, commissioning, site and O&M teams.
- Contribute to the improvement of engineering tools, templates, lessons learned, technical guides and internal processes.
Ideal Candidate
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Electrotechnical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in EPC project engineering, ideally within BESS, renewable energy, power generation or grid-connected infrastructure.
- Experience as an Application Engineer, Lead Engineer, Technical Project Engineer or similar would be highly relevant.
- Strong cross-discipline coordination skills across electrical, mechanical, automation/IT and civil engineering.
- Solid understanding of BESS EPC scope, including power conversion, HV/MV/LV systems, mechanical integration, SCADA/control and civil interfaces.
- Working knowledge of IEC and IEEE standards, European grid codes, technical compliance matrices and MDR practices.
- Comfortable working with Microsoft Planner and Power BI for project tracking.
- Fluent French and English, both written and spoken.
- Willingness to travel internationally
Why Apply?
