Turner Lovell is supporting a major international energy technology company delivering advanced power conversion, energy storage and grid integration solutions for the global energy transition. With strong growth across Europe, Africa and the Middle East, our client is strengthening its electrical engineering team to deliver complex turnkey BESS power plants and grid connection projects.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Electrical Engineer to take ownership of high-voltage electrical studies and design activities across international battery storage projects, from tender support and basic design through to detailed engineering, FAT/SAT, commissioning support and as-built documentation.
Your Role
As HV Electrical Engineer, you will lead the HV electrical studies for battery storage projects, covering substations, power transformers, HV cables and grid connection scope. You will work closely with project management, procurement, commissioning teams, TSO/DSO stakeholders and specialist suppliers to ensure technically compliant, reliable and optimised solutions.
Responsibilities
- Lead HV electrical studies and design for BESS EPC projects from tender phase through to as-built documentation.
- Work on HV substations including AIS, GIS.
- Produce technical specifications and datasheets for power transformers, circuit breakers, disconnectors, CT/VTs, surge arresters and HV switchgear.
- Perform electrical studies including load flow, short circuit, HV cable sizing, ampacity, protection coordination and insulation coordination.
- Design and validate earthing systems, step and touch voltage studies, clearances, creepage and lightning protection.
- Carry out grid code compliance and grid connection studies including harmonics, power quality, reactive power capability and fault ride-through.
- Use DIgSILENT PowerFactory for load flow, short circuit, protection coordination and grid code compliance studies.
- Use dedicated tools for earthing studies, and HV cable ampacity calculations.
- Ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE, CIGRE guidance, national grid codes and project-specific technical requirements.
- Prepare, attend and validate FAT/SAT activities for HV equipment, including transformers, switchgear and protection relays.
- Evaluate supplier technical offers, raise technical queries and contribute to bid evaluation reports.
- Interface with project management, procurement, commissioning, TSO/DSO stakeholders, customers and HV suppliers.
- Support commercial teams during tendering with HV sizing, bill of quantities, technical risk identification and engineering hours estimation.
- Contribute to the standardisation of HV specifications, calculation methodologies, engineering tools and internal best practices.
Ideal Candidate
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Electrotechnical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in electrical engineering with proven expertise in HV / high voltage systems.
- Strong experience in HV substation design, AIS/GIS equipment, power transformer specification, grid connection studies or TSO/utility engineering.
- Previous experience in renewable energy, BESS or EPC projects would be a strong advantage.
- Proven hands‑on experience with DIgSILENT PowerFactory is required.
- Knowledge of HV / high voltage studies including load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, insulation coordination, cable sizing, harmonics, arc flash and earthing.
- Good understanding of IEC standards including IEC 60076, 62271, 60287, 60853, 60909, 60071 and 62305.
- Familiarity with IEEE 80, CIGRE guidance and international grid codes.
- Experience with AutoCAD, Elecalc, CDEGS or equivalent earthing tools, and relay configuration tools such as DIGSI 5, PCM600 or Easergy Pro would be beneficial.
- Strong analytical skills, technical rigour and ability to produce clear, traceable calculation notes.
- Comfortable working in multidisciplinary and international project environments.
- Fluent French and English, both written and spoken.
- Willingness to travel internationally.
Why Apply?
