Description of Work

This position is located at Harnett Correctional Institution in Lillington, NC. The facility is a medium custody prison with a maximum capacity of 988 male offenders. The primary purpose of this role is to provide dental care and treatment to offenders within the prison system to meet health care needs.

Responsibilities

• Take and review medical and dental history and perform examination of hard and soft tissues.
• Initiate appropriate dental care and treatment of offender patients.
• Order appropriate diagnostic studies, arrange follow‑up and consultation, and supervise the dental staff in specialty areas such as oral surgery, endodontics, prosthetics and periodontics.
• Document procedures accurately in dental and medical charts and monitor all infection control aspects, including barrier techniques and instrument sterilization.
• Provide oral hygiene instructions to offenders and communicate diagnostic and treatment concerns.
• Document weekly spore testing and maintenance of equipment; assess offender and staff needs and develop new programs or adjustments as necessary.
• Supervise daily tasks of dental assistants, delegate duties, evaluate operations and procedures, analyze deficiencies and recommend solutions.
• Write responses to offender grievances and to DAC Legal as required.
• Maintain professional demeanor and positive communication with dental, medical and custody staff.

Qualifications

• Licensed to practice dentistry in the state of North Carolina.
• Preferred knowledge, skills and abilities as described above.

Salary Range

$111,858 – $223,714
