Description
AWS Infrastructure Services (AIS) is currently seeking an Engineering Operations Technician to serve as a technical resource supporting Amazon’s mission‑critical data center. The role focuses on ensuring overall availability and reliability of all electrical and mechanical infrastructure, maintaining better than 99.999 % uptime.
Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain mechanical, electrical, and HVAC equipment within the data center/facility.
- Supervise contractors performing servicing or preventive maintenance.
- Develop work plans for emergency repair of critical assets.
- Work under minimal supervision and on‑call with a rotating schedule.
- Use ticketing systems, perform root‑cause analysis, and prioritize tasks.
- Perform shift duties, including rack power installs, PDU and ATS replacements, and verification of electrical/cooling capacity before new rack installations.
- Create and close work orders with detailed data on labor, equipment, and parts.
- Maintain change records for mission‑critical infrastructure to support corrective and preventive maintenance.
- Test quality, performance, safety, and reliability of products, equipment, and processes.
- Respond to electrical and mechanical troubleshooting for equipment such as AHU’s, chillers, cooling towers, chemical treatment systems, pumps, motors, VFD’s, and building automation systems.

Accountabilities

- Drive continuous improvement of infrastructure via standardization.
- Deliver 100 % uptime on customer‑supporting infrastructure.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders for operational excellence.
- Plan and execute preventive maintenance of critical infrastructure per AWS procedures.
- Monitor and supervise facility via BMS, PMS, and walkthroughs.
- Support build‑out and retrofit of data center infrastructure.
- Respond effectively to customer‑impacting events.
- Review incident reports, document trend summaries, and recommend actions to management.
- Draft, update, and maintain method statements, SOPs, emergency response procedures, preventive maintenance programs, and technical documentation.
Physical Requirements
- Work on a 24×7 schedule, where applicable.
- Work at heights and from ladders.
- Perform physical tasks during shifts and coordinate movements when using tools or equipment.
- Work in a noisy environment with ear protection.
Basic Qualifications
- Apprentice/trades certification or diploma in an electrical field.
- Demonstrated electrical competencies and knowledge of mechanical systems (HVAC, controls).
- Good English communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Data center engineering experience.
- Degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related discipline.
- Familiarity with Building Management System (BMS) and Electrical Power Monitoring System (EPMS).
