AWS Infrastructure Services (AIS) is seeking an Engineering Operations Technician to support mission critical Data Centers, ensuring availability and reliability of electrical and mechanical infrastructure. The role involves maintaining equipment that supports mission-critical servers with uptime better than 99.999%. The successful candidate is self-managed, initiates solutions for complex technical problems, and contributes to resiliency, efficiency, and capacity of AWS facilities, including diesel generators, fuel systems, three-phase electrical systems (switchgear, UPS, PDUs, batteries, CRAC, chillers, cooling towers, water chemistry, air handlers, pumps, motors), and related systems.
AWS AIS emphasizes hands-on operation in Data Center Operations’ Mission Critical Facilities, including maintenance and troubleshooting across infrastructure components.
Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain all mechanical, electrical and HVAC equipment within the Data Center/Facility.
- Supervise contractors who perform servicing or preventive maintenance.
- Develop work plans for emergency repair of critical assets.
- Operate under minimal supervision.
- Work on-call and on rotating schedules as needed.
- Perform basic support concepts such as ticketing systems, root cause analysis, and task prioritization.
- Perform shift duty as required.
- Fully comply with all physical security procedures and policies.
- Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to while performing work.
- Perform rack power installs, rack PDU, and rack ATS replacements.
- Verify electrical/cooling capacity before new rack installs.
- Create and close work orders with data on labor hours, equipment maintenance, and parts used in asset management systems.
- Maintain changes in state in Mission Critical infrastructure in support of corrective/preventive maintenance.
- Test quality, performance, safety, and reliability of products, equipment and processes.
- Serve as a front-line resolver for hands-on electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting (e.g., AHUs, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, motors, VFDs, building automation systems).
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications- Apprentice/trades certified or diploma in an Electrical field.
- Demonstrate key electrical competencies and knowledge of mechanical systems (Mechanical, HVAC, Controls).
- Good English communication skills.
- Data Center engineering experience.
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or relevant discipline.
- Familiar with Building Management System (BMS) and Electrical Power Monitoring System (EPMS) control systems and data collection/trending.
