DCEO Chief Engineer, Data Center Engineering Operations
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is looking for a rigorous and experienced Chief Engineer to join our Data Center Engineering Operations (DCEO) team. The role focuses on maintaining the critical physical infrastructure that supports AWS, ensuring 100% uptime of mechanical, electrical, and fire protection/life safety systems while delivering world‑class customer service to the teams operating within the data centres.
Responsibilities include overseeing daily operations and maintenance of the data centre’s mechanical and electrical equipment, acting as the escalation point for all facility‑related issues, performing root cause analysis of equipment failures, troubleshooting and reporting facility‑level and server‑level events within internal SLA timelines, creating and deploying new standard practices for EOT technicians, chief engineers, and contractor teams, providing training and mentoring to Engineering Operations Technicians, ensuring strict compliance with all safety procedures, using the internal CMMS to manage and track facility workflows, communicating complex technical information to non‑technical audiences, and managing infrastructure improvement projects from design to delivery.
Basic Qualifications
- Intermediate level proficiency in English and/or French (spoken and written)
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, HVAC, Industrial Technology, or Electrotechnical Engineering
- Minimum five years of relevant professional experience in a data centre or other critical environment
- Significant experience in the operation and maintenance of critical infrastructure (UPS, generators, switchboards, HVAC, chilled water/cooling systems)
Preferred Qualifications
- Fluency in English (spoken, written, and reading)
- Knowledge of CMMS, BMS (Building Management Systems), and electrical power monitoring systems (EPMS)
- Experience in technical project management (design, cost tracking, delivery)
- Experience in data centres, manufacturing, or the Oil & Gas sector
- Proven experience supervising and training technical teams
- Familiarity with 24/7/365 critical operational environments
- Ability to communicate complex technical information to non‑technical audiences
