Data Engineer - AI Safety

We are partnered with a cutting‑edge AI safety startup that is building the foundational reliability and optimization layer for advanced AI systems capable of managing hundreds of millions of API calls monthly and train proprietary LLMs and VLMs that outperform commercial and open‑source models. They are seeking an experienced Data Engineer to architect and build a scalable data environment capable of handling petabytes of logs, events, and model traces.

This is a permanent opportunity based in Paris, France.

Key Responsibilities for this Data Engineer position:

• Architect and maintain a clean, scalable data environment capable of storing and processing petabytes of logs, traces, and model outputs.
• Develop internal data APIs, SDKs, and tooling to allow engineering, product, and research teams to discover, query, and utilize data efficiently.
• Own the performance optimization across the entire data stack, from storage layouts to query execution plans, ensuring fast analytics and research workflows.
• Ensure data dependability for production, testing, and research workloads.
• Own data governance and security, defining and enforcing permissions, access controls, and security policies across the data layer.

Key Requirements:

• Strong experience building or scaling a modern data stack (e.g., Snowflake, ClickHouse, or event streaming systems) in a fast‑moving environment.
• High proficiency in SQL and Python, with comfort working on large, noisy datasets.
• Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate directly with researchers and engineers.
