Data Engineer

The Role

This is a founding infrastructure hire. You'll be responsible for designing, building and running the data platform that sits at the core of the company's trading operation - ingesting real-time market signals, powering forecasting models, and ensuring the reliability of systems that directly influence live trading decisions.

This is not internal tooling. Everything you build runs in production.

What You'll Be Doing

• Architect and manage cloud-based data infrastructure, handling ingestion from multiple market data sources including APIs, FTP feeds and websockets
• Build and maintain robust ETL/ELT pipelines for market data (prices, volumes, grid signals)
• Set up and operate real-time streaming systems for high-frequency intraday and balancing market data
• Develop and maintain ML infrastructure - feature stores, model training pipelines and deployment environments for forecasting models
• Own monitoring, observability and data quality across all pipelines - 24/7 operational continuity is critical
• Document architecture and data schemas to support team growth and onboarding

What We're Looking For

• Strong Python skills for data engineering, with solid development practices (testing, versioning, documentation)
• Hands-on AWS experience - S3, Lambda, Glue, RDS/Aurora, CloudWatch
• Experience with workflow orchestration (Airflow or similar) and stream processing (Kafka or similar)
• Strong SQL skills and understanding of data modelling principles
• Familiarity with Docker and CI/CD pipelines; IaC experience is a bonus
• Degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Applied Mathematics or equivalent
• 1 - 3 years of relevant experience; background in energy, finance or trading is advantageous but not required
