This role is onsite, part of the Ames Manufacturing Support Team at our Ames, IA location. It is a 2nd Shift position (2:00 pm – 12:00 am CT), Monday through Thursday.

Responsibilities

• Manufacture bulk solutions per existing formularies.
• Perform production controls and adjust bulk reagents to meet product specifications.
• Release conforming materials to processing, packaging, or stock in a timely manner.
• Operate all manufacturing equipment safely and maintain equipment in proper working condition.
• Maintain clean production and lab areas.
• Follow a production schedule and communicate with leadership and downstream pack lines on roadblocks.
• Comply with company safety policies, including safe operation of equipment, PPE usage, safe transportation and handling of bulk chemicals, hand tool safety, lock‑out‑tag‑out, and proper storage of tools; comply with good housekeeping policies.
• Keep accurate production and inventory records; follow a kanban process.
• Accurately perform required computer data entry and work order transactions (LOTS, scrap, Oracle, Kanban).
• Identify continuous improvement opportunities.

Essential Requirements

• A minimum of 1 year of completed college chemistry with lab is required.
• A minimum of 1 year of scientific production, process, or lab technician experience OR a Bachelor of Science degree with no experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong laboratory technique.
• Strong analytical technique (use of volumetric glassware to make standard solutions, perform dilutions, and perform titrations).
• High attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Physical Demands

The employee must occasionally lift, carry, push or pull up to 20 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. The employee is required to walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, bend, kneel, crouch or crawl, and use hands to handle objects and computer keyboards. Vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

May be exposed to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures and workspace restrictions. Noise level may be loud. Required PPE includes eye, hearing and respiratory protection, protective smock, steel toe shoes, gloves, hard hats, or face shields. Contacts are not allowed.

Pre‑Employment Testing

External hiring into this position is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre‑employment drug screen, background check and possible pre‑employment physical and/or credit history review.
