Position Overview

The Global Category Buyer will manage the multi‑million clinical trials spend across Clinical and Medical Services, supporting research and development in Oncology, Neuroscience and Rare Disease. Responsibilities include implementing category strategies, leading procurement and supplier management, and delivering value through sourcing, negotiation and risk management.

Main Responsibilities

• Partner with business stakeholders to understand the Clinical Development Plan and R&D/Medical trials portfolio.
• Analyze spend and budget to identify procurement opportunities with R&D and medical stakeholders.
• Develop and execute procurement strategies aligning with business goals and global procurement policy.
• Deploy a 7‑step strategic sourcing process to optimize spend, drive supplier performance, and minimize risk.
• Lead negotiations to secure best value prices, terms, and lead‑times for services and goods.
• Build and deliver savings pipelines for assigned categories.
• Support category management processes and file management of RFPs and contracts.
• Monitor MSA execution, compliance and deviation.
• Build robust relationships with strategic vendors and manage supplier performance through KPIs.

Key Activities & Technical Competencies

• Implement sourcing strategies for Clinical and Medical categories.
• Lead outsourcing projects: need definition, cost analysis, negotiation, contract development.
• Secure commercial terms and contract execution in collaboration with study directors and project managers.
• Support CSR initiatives related to category and manage litigations.
• Support strategic supplier relationship management: governance meetings, KPI culture, compliance of category strategies.

Knowledge & Experience (Essential)

• Proven experience in procurement in an international and matrix environment.
• Knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry and drug development process.
• Experience with Contract Research Organizations (CROs).
• Strong planning and organizational skills to meet procurement deadlines.
• Strategic sourcing and procurement skills with cross‑functional teams across multiple geographies.
• Proficiency with procurement processes, systems, and tools, including risk management and supplier relationship management.
• Project management skills: plan projects, set goals, identify risks, develop contingency plans.
• Negotiation skills: influence and negotiate optimal agreements.
• Data analysis: convert data into actionable suggestions.
• Market and supplier knowledge for relevant categories.

Knowledge & Experience (Preferred)

• Operational role in Clinical Operations (e.g., CRA) or a CRO (Business Development or Customer Delivery).

Education & Certifications

• Mandatory: Master’s degree in business, management or procurement.
• Preferred: Professional qualification in procurement (e.g., CIPS).

Languages

• Essential: Fluent English.
