Accounting Specialist
EBA CLEARING is a provider of pan-European payment infrastructure solutions. The position
The Finance Unit is responsible for accounting and finance operations across EBA CLEARING’s legal entities. The role will support day-to-day accounting activities across accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, bank reconciliations, tax operations and closing activities.
The successful candidate will contribute to accurate accounting records, reliable reconciliations, timely closing activities, strong documentation and compliance with applicable accounting standards, including French GAAP and IFRS reporting requirements where relevant.
The role is well suited to an accountant with solid operational accounting experience who is comfortable working across AP, AR and GL activities in an international environment and who has a good understanding of accounting principles, cut-off, accruals, revenue recognition, fixed assets and balance sheet controls.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Payable, Procurement Support and Payments
- Process supplier invoices and expense claims in line with internal policies, approval workflows and accounting procedures.
- Match supplier invoices to purchase orders and ensure appropriate accounting coding, cost centre allocation and analytical classification.
- Ensure appropriate accounting treatment of operating expenses, prepaid expenses, accruals and capital expenditure, including fixed asset recognition where applicable.
- Support Heads of Units and their teams with purchase order-related queries and supplier information where needed.
- Maintain supplier master data and related supporting documentation.
- Prepare payment files for review and authorisation in banks’ online platforms.
- Follow up on invoice, supplier and payment discrepancies.
- Ensure that AP transactions are properly documented and supported by a clear audit trail.
Accounts Receivable, Billing and Revenue Accounting
- Record billing and revenue-related accounting entries accurately and on time.
- Support monthly, quarterly and annual billing processes, including VAT-related entries and analytical allocation.
- Assist with revenue reconciliations between billing systems, accounting records and supporting documentation.
- Support deferred revenue, accrued income and revenue cut-off entries where required.
- Contribute to the correct application of revenue recognition principles, including IFRS considerations where applicable.
- Liaise with internal service teams on customer queries, invoice follow-up and supporting analyses.
- Prepare or support ageing reports and follow up on overdue receivables.
- Assist with customer account reconciliations and resolution of payment allocation issues.
General Ledger and Closing Activities
- Record recurring and non-recurring accounting entries, including accruals, prepayments, fixed asset depreciation, cut-off entries, provisions and reclassifications.
- Support month-end, quarter-end and year-end closing activities.
- Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules.
- Analyse assigned balance sheet and P&L accounts and follow up on unusual movements or discrepancies.
- Support the preparation of IFRS or management reporting adjustments where required.
- Ensure consistency between accounting entries, supporting documentation, internal policies and applicable accounting standards.
- Escalate accounting issues, technical questions or judgmental matters when required.
Fixed Assets, Capex and Accounting Judgement
- Support the accounting treatment of fixed assets, capital expenditure and depreciation.
- Assist with the documentation of accounting judgments, including capitalisation versus expense assessment.
- Ensure that fixed asset additions, disposals and depreciation entries are properly supported and recorded.
- Contribute to reconciliations between fixed asset registers, supplier invoices and general ledger accounts.
Banking, Cash and Reconciliations
- Perform bank reconciliations and follow up on unreconciled items.
- Support payment-related controls and treasury documentation.
- Assist with cash position follow-up and bank transaction analysis where required.
- Ensure proper documentation of bank movements and related accounting entries.
- Support the reconciliation of payment files, bank statements and accounting entries.
Tax and Compliance Support
- Support the preparation of VAT declarations, European Services Declarations, Intrastat declarations and VAT refund claims, where applicable.
- Ensure correct VAT coding and supporting documentation for supplier and customer transactions.
- Maintain tax documentation and supporting evidence in line with internal and statutory requirements.
- Support responses to standard tax, audit or compliance requests.
- Escalate tax, accounting or compliance questions when required.
Processes, Controls and Systems
- Apply internal finance procedures, delegation-of-authority rules and control requirements.
- Support audit requests by preparing reconciliations, supporting schedules and documentation.
- Contribute to the documentation and improvement of accounting procedures and workflows.
- Use finance systems accurately and contribute to data quality and process reliability.
- Participate in finance improvement initiatives, including automation, ERP usage, expense management workflows and e-invoicing readiness.
- Help strengthen the quality of accounting documentation, control evidence and audit readiness.
Requirements
- A degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration.
- Around 4 to 6 years of relevant accounting experience, ideally in a corporate environment, accounting firm, or shared service centre.
- Solid knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger accounting, reconciliations and closing processes.
- Good understanding of accounting principles, including accruals, prepayments, cut-off, provisions, fixed assets and revenue recognition.
- Knowledge of IFRS.
- Knowledge of French GAAP would be an advantage.
- Good understanding of VAT and standard tax-related accounting documentation.
- Experience with ERP systems; experience with Sage 1000 FRP or a similar ERP would be an advantage.
- Good Excel and MS Office skills.
- Fluent English and French, written and spoken
