Zulu Language Specialist

Bringing AI to the vibrant isiZulu language, with its distinctive click consonants and rich Bantu structure, is a groundbreaking endeavor. As a Zulu Language Specialist, you will be instrumental in generating and evaluating high-quality isiZulu text data, ensuring AI models accurately capture its unique phonology, grammar, and cultural context, fostering truly intelligent and inclusive AI for South Africa.

Key Responsibilities

• Generate diverse isiZulu text data, focusing on accurate representation of click consonants and other unique phonetic features.
• Evaluate AI-generated isiZulu text for grammatical correctness, semantic accuracy, and naturalness.
• Evaluate isiZulu text for linguistic features such as part-of-speech, named entities, and sentiment, paying close attention to click consonant markers.
• Identify and correct errors in machine translation outputs from/to isiZulu.
• Provide expert feedback on the cultural appropriateness and contextual relevance of AI responses.
• Contribute to the development of isiZulu-specific NLP guidelines and best practices.

Ideal Qualifications

• Native fluency in isiZulu with an expert understanding of its grammar, syntax, and click consonants.
• Strong cultural knowledge of the Zulu people and their linguistic conventions.
• Experience in translation, content creation, or linguistic analysis for isiZulu.
• Familiarity with NLP concepts and data evaluation tools (e.g., Prodigy, Labelbox) is a plus.
• Exceptional written communication skills and meticulous attention to detail, particularly with unique phonemes.
• Ability to work independently and adhere to strict data quality standards.
