Position Overview
St. Leo Catholic Church is seeking a faithful, enthusiastic, and organized Part-Time Youth Ministry Coordinator to lead our middle and high school youth programs.
Grounded in a discipleship model, the Youth Minister will focus on three core pillars:
- Win young people over to a relationship with Jesus Christ and His Church.
- Build them up through faithful Catholic formation, prayer, and community.
- Send them out as joyful missionary disciples to evangelize their peers, families, and community.
Key Responsibilities
- Weekly Youth Nights & Preparation
- Event Planning & Facilitation: Organize, plan, and execute a high-energy, faith-filled weekly youth gathering for teens.
- Weekly Preparation: Set aside dedicated hours each week for curriculum selection, talk prep, activity planning, dynamic media/music setup, and logistics.
- Discipleship & Community: Foster an intentional, welcoming environment where middle and high school students feel safe, valued, and encouraged in their walk with Christ.
- Service Opportunities: Create a culture of service and ministry where youth can be involved in liturgical ministries and parish events.
- Summer Conferences & Seasonal Events
- Steubenville Youth Conference: Coordinate all registration, fundraising, transportation, chaperones, and spiritual preparation for the annual Steubenville Conference trip.
- NCYC (National Catholic Youth Conference): Plan and lead attendance for NCYC when held, handling all diocesan requirements, travel logistics, and teen/chaperone preparation.
- Local Summer Opportunities: Organize local summer service projects, retreats, social gatherings, or outdoor events to maintain community engagement through the summer months.
- Volunteer Leadership & Safe Environment
- Adult Leadership Team: Recruit, train, and mentor a core team of adult volunteers to assist with weekly nights, small groups, and trips.
- Child Safety Compliance: Ensure all youth ministry activities, volunteers, and chaperones strictly adhere to the Safe Environment policies of the Diocese of Lexington.
- Communication & Parish Integration
- Keep parents actively informed about youth events through regular newsletters, flocknotes, social media, and bulletin announcements.
- Collaborate with parish staff, the pastor, and religious education programs to ensure seamless integration into the broader parish life.
- Interact and collaborate with formation committee to discuss initiatives and get input.
Qualifications & Skills
- Faith & Character: Practicing Catholic in good standing with a visible passion for the Catholic faith and a personal prayer life.
- Ministry Experience: Experience working with youth in a parish, campus, or camp ministry setting preferred.
- Evangelization Mindset: Strong understanding of youth culture and a gift for connecting with teenagers in an authentic, approachable way.
- Organizational & Communication Skills: Clear written and verbal communication, effective time management, and comfort using modern communication tools (social media, email platforms, messaging apps).
- Clearance: Must pass a criminal background check and complete Safe Environment certification prior to start date.
Position Details & Work Schedule
- Hours: 10–15 hours per week (varies based on week-to-week needs and seasonal event travel).
- Schedule Expectations: Evening and weekend hours required (for weekly youth nights, retreats, and summer trips). Flexible daytime hours for administrative prep work.
