We offer a unique and transformative opportunity to immerse yourself in the vibrant culture and rich biodiversity of the Ecuadorian Amazon. This program provides an in-depth understanding of medicinal plants in traditional medicine and their role in addressing local epidemiological concerns.
Overview
You will work alongside alternative healthcare providers, specialists, and local healers, learning about their customs and the significance of their work in preserving their culture.
Daily Activities
- Work in agroforestry farms, cultivating medicinal plants.
- Participate in plant inventories.
- Engage in independent research or activities with healers and medicine men.
- Daily routine includes breakfast and a possible early‑morning ritual of sharing guayusa tea with host family.
- Evenings and weekends include cultural activities such as sports, teaching English, or exploring nearby tourist destinations.
Logistics
- Flight to Mariscal Sucre International Airport (UIO) in Quito, the capital of Ecuador.
- Transport to the town of Tena (approximately 4‑hour drive).
- Accommodation with a host family in a comfortable private room; a local hotel can be arranged if preferred.
Cost
The cost of the programme is €1,000 per week, with a minimum 2‑week booking (including travel time). This includes:
- Private accommodation
- All meals
- Airport pickup + transfer to project (includes overnight stay in Quito upon arrival)
- All project‑related activities
- Premium support package with 24/7 support
This does not include:
- Flights
- Visa fees (if applicable)
