The Mid‑Market (‘MM’) Direct Lending team is responsible for the origination and execution of MM LBOs with financial sponsors, working alongside Coverage colleagues and supported by the Leveraged Finance platform.
Main Purpose of the Role
Assist senior team members with originating, structuring and executing Middle Market Private Equity sponsor‑owned transactions with a focus on the French market
Assisting with the management of the group’s portfolio of Mid
Market deals
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and present client marketing and financing materials and internal approval documents (credit applications, screening applications, models) in coordination with other deal team members.
Contribute to the credit decision process by carrying out rigorous due‑diligence analysis and participating in the review of opportunities during committees.
Build relationships at the appropriate business levels to create and maintain trust with corporate clients, private equity funds, debt advisors and partner banks, especially those based in France and active in the French Middle Market LBO space.
Take ownership of workflows and demonstrate autonomy and judgment.
Support all aspects of deal execution as required during the development and execution of a mandate.
Work collaboratively across the wider team to support various product Coverage teams as and when the need arises.
Build relationships throughout MUFG to establish a peer network, gather relevant information and help ensure effective inter‑departmental collaboration.
Support the leveraged portfolio team in ongoing monitoring of MM deals, assist in waivers and amendments, and identify refinancing and ancillary opportunities, engaging with clients as appropriate.
Collaborate across the wider team to support various functions as and when the need arises.
Work Experience
Experience working within a banking/advisory or transactional environment.
Good understanding of the LBO market and debt instruments with strong transaction experience in Leverage Finance or Direct Lending.
Experience in all aspects of financial modelling (M&A, LBO and ratings).
Experience in supporting credit analysis and due diligence.
Comfortable working in different cultures.
Skills And Experience Functional and Technical Competencies
Understanding of the fundamentals of deal structuring
Interest in developing a network internally and externally with Private Equity sponsors
A good team player with excellent interpersonal skills
Some knowledge of leveraged legal documentation
Sound credit skills at an intermediate level
Basic negotiation skills with internal partners
Detailed understanding and practical experience of financial modelling
Ability to effectively manage tight deadlines and different stakeholders
Clear communication skills both written and oral
Basic knowledge of leveraged debt capital markets and M&A dynamics
Corporate finance principles/accounting knowledge
Education and Qualifications Essential
Degree level education
French & English speaker
Preferred
Relevant post‑degree qualification preferred (e.g. CFA or ACA)
